Hi we are going to be relocating to the Portland area in the fall. I was wondering if anyone had a good recomendation on a Montessori preschool in the SW area and also any recomendations for catholic schools and public in the SW area as well? Any thoughts would be great! It is tough moving to a new place and trying to find good schools for your children. I have 2 girls, one who will be 3 and the other 5. Thank you

What can I do next?

My two daughters attend West Hills Montessori. I couldn't be happier. We went through a few schools prior to finding West Hills, and the difference between the other schools and West Hills is HUGE. I truly can't say enough good about it. The website is www.westhills-montessori.com.

Hi K.,

We moved here from Virginia just a year and a half ago so I know just what you're going through. We have our son and daughter at Sunstone Montessori School. The preschool is in Multnomah Village (SW) The website is Sunstonemontessori.org. The elementary school is on Shattuck Road. It's a great little school!

Rieke elementary school is our neighborhood school. While our children don't attend, it has an excellent reputation and all the folks we've meet who have children there say good things about it.

Good luck with your move. We love it here!

Kathy

In SW Portland St. John Fischer is a great church and school. There is a Montessori next to the church but I can not remember the name now. I have a friend whose children attended and they loved it. If you want something near the Tigard area St. Anthony's is great too. I have heard great things about the school and I attended the church in my early 20's before I moved. Good luck.

My daughter attends West Hills Montessori (SW 45th and Vermont) -- this is close to Multnomah village and Hillsdale shopping area. We love it!! They have several primary classrooms and have two elementary classrooms, so your daughters could attend through 6th grade. Mine is in the 3rd grade right now. It's a great school and a lovely campus. Sunstone Montessori is also really great, and has an elementary (though the children's house is at a separate campus). There is a Catholic school (K-8) right next door: St. John Fisher. Good luck! Feel free to email with any other questions.

My daughter is in her 2nd year at Holy Trinity Catholic school in Beaverton. We went from kindergarten through 5th grade at a local public grade school that we thought was great. The change has made us realize that Holy Trinity expects more from their students. I believe she is being challenged in a whole new way! Check them out. It's worth it!

Hi K. ~

Welcome to Portland. My SIL is sort of a Montessori expert - her email is ____@____.com She is on Mamasource but may not see your post, as her area is experiencing power outages. Email her directly for info on M schools in SW. L.
