School Bus

My oldest child just started kindergarten. She goes to a charter school which is about a half hour from our home. So far, my husband and I have driven her. He drops her off before work and I pick her up in the afternoons generally. When he has early meetings ( about one week out of a month), I will have to drive both ways. I have to bring pur 7 month old baby too. We are considering sending her on the bus in the afternoon which would be a 45 minute ride. The am bus ride is an hour and 20 minutes. That feels too long. It is a small bus without seat belts. There are other kids from her school and from a private school. The ages of other kids are K up to 8th grade. I just wanted to get thoughts on sending her on the bus or not. Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

The AM ride does seem really long. The PM ride is long, but might be ok if she has a friend to sit with? My kindergartner has a 30 min ride and she complains about it being SO LONG. and she is the only kindergartner on the entire bus. I hate it and feel guilty, I seriously wish we could move (but no one would buy our house because they wouldn't want a long bus ride for their kids haha). I work M/W/F so she will have to take the bus. But once she gets used to it, I will start picking her up Tue/Thurs.

My dd is nervous about the bus everyday. its really the only thing she dislikes about school (so far). I would drive her both ways every day if I could.

Sounds a little hard for a kindergartner...I'd probably drive.

If the kids on the bus have to sit that long, I could see lots of bored kids getting into trouble too. Buses seem to bring out the worst in kids. We've had a number of problems on the bus (who sits by who, kids kicking the seat and each other etc. etc.)

I think that I'd try it. There's no reason not to if other kids she knows are on the bus too. Plus she'll make some friends after a few rides anyway.

I think she would enjoy it a lot. I would watch for signs she is not liking it though. Just in case.

You've got to do what you have to... but for me... I just can't put my two kindergarten girls on the bus. It's about 35 minutes each way for my girls, and it's with kids up to 8th grade too. It just makes the day too long. Plus, I have many friends who have heard of problems on the bus, and their kids have come home knowing a lot of words that no kindergartener should know.
