Hello Ladies,
My 2 year old daughter is suddenly terrified of shadows and is giving me a hard time going to sleep. I'm trying to find books that I can read to her at night. What I found it is more for older kids and I do not think she is going to really "get it." Can anyone recommend a book for younger kids.
Thanks so much!

Thank you ladies. I will check these books. I know this stage will pass as well. Thx again.

Give her a flashlight!

That is what we did. Our daughter kept it next to her bed and for a while she carried it around the house. It was like magic. She learned to point it at every shadow and discovered there was NEVER anything scary there on her own.

Perhaps you could make up a story. The two of you could even make a book with her "drawing" pictures. Ask her what each mark means and write that down as well as the story you're telling.

Have you checked the public library parenting section. They have book for both the parent and the child. The librarian can help you find one.

Not your question, I know, but it might help to make shadows on the wall with your hands so that she can see how shadows are made. There are books and booklets that shows you how to make different shadow animals.

These are supposed to be for preschoolers but I'm not sure if they are appropriate for 2 yo.

What's that Noise by Michelle Edwards
The Owl Who Was afraid of the Dark by Tomlinson
Can't you Sleep little Bear by Waddell

Love the idea of giving her a flashlight. We used to make shadow pictures on the wall next to our kids beds. They thought it was fun. You could try it and see if that helps. We dealt with this a little but it passed pretty quickly. I hope it does for your daughter too!

There is a book called "Bedtime for Frances", it's very cute and my kids enjoy it. Frances sees different thing in the dark and gets scared, but then realizes that there's nothing to be scared of.
