We actually got our sandbox sand from Toys R' Us.
Hello Mamasource Moms,
I don't know if this has already been an issue posted, but I just bought my son a sand table and am in need of safe, sandbox sand. I don't want to use that Quikcrete stuff at Lowes or Home Depot. I've read all the reviews and have decided for my family that we will need white sand or a safer play sand. My problem is that not only is it very expensive; the shipping costs are outrageous! I don't mind spending more for the sand, but I just can't see paying for those shipping costs if I can get it myself. Do any of you know where I can physically go to purchase white play sand or something comparable? My son is so excited to play with the sandbox. I'd love to be able to fill it for him by the weekend.
Thanks so much!
Thank you to everyone who replied to my request. I had previously heard that Toys R Us sand was great, but after shopping online, I was lead to believe they didn't carry it in the stores. Once I realized you could purchase it in the stores, I went and bought a couple of bags. It is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much for all of your help. My son is thrilled with his new sandbox and I am thrilled that he isn't inhaling a bunch of dust!

Toys R Us has great sand.
sea land on gratiot between 12 mile and 13 mile next to the dairy queen sells white sand but it is very expensive
Hi D., the best sand - hands down - is the play sand they sell at Toys R Us. I have tried all the rest and actually felt the kids needed baths after playing with it. Check their label about it being "safe" sand, although I have no idea what that means. My kids love it and its pure white, clean and fun! I think its $5.99 for a 20lb bag.
Good Luck!
Lowes carries play sand. Its not quickcrete.
Hi D.
We always get our play sand from Meijer; make sure to get the white play sand and it isn't too expensive. About $2.99 a bag I think.
Good luck!

Quickrete does make a safe play sand. It is Not the stuff you get at Lowe's or Home Depot to actually pour concrete, it is just their brand name on play sand. It is cleaned and screened. Toys R Us and Meijer should have sand available.
