Running Moms - Do You Jog with Your "Big Kid"?

My jogging stroller holds up to approximately 35lbs. My son is about that at age 2.5 I would really like to continue having him as my running partner, and I do know they make jogging strollers to hold up to 80-100 or so, but do moms really run with their 3, 4, 5 year olds, or is it time I find an adult partner? =(

What can I do next?

I did, but my jogger had a higher weight limit. I also see a lot of moms putting their kids on a balance bike or scooter.

My DD got a bicycle when she was about 3.5 and first rode alongside me on training wheels and later without. She is 6 now and I still go running with her riding her bike... she's just a lot faster than me these days.

Good luck.

Love my jogging stroller ! I was just looking at the baby jogger pod which I'm thinking of getting which has a very high weight limit. I think you can take them with as long as you both enjoy it.

I go to a park daily, that has a long running path.

I don't jog, but I know of at least 5 regulars I see jogging with older kids in the strollers. Heck, I have seen kids around 6-7 in them.

Maybe you can help him get more proficient on a bike, and when you feel his skills allow it, (probably in at least a year or more) he can ride along side you.

If you enjoy that jogging time with your child and will use it then go right ahead and get one. They may be more expensive but its your family. If you are sure you will use it as he gets older then I say go for it

i wasn't a runner until my kids were way past this phase. but i suggest you run with your big kid as long as you can find a stroller to hold him and he'll sit in it!

35lbs? Forget that! Leave your precious "bundle" at home and have a constructive run.

Get him a balance bike - he's the perfect age! My son could go 4 miles on that thing (no hills) and I got a nice little jog in. By age 4 both of my boys could ride regular bikes (never used training wheels) and now they are awesome running buddies. Please know that speed can't really be your objective though! My 7 year old is a perfect partner around the neighborhood and the 5 year old is tolerable and best on a paved trail.

If you are both enjoying each other, why not. If he is crying and trying to get out, leave him at home.
