Does anyone know where I can get a vile of the rubella immunization? I am splitting up my son's immunizations and this is the next one in line although I have been told they are on backorder for 2 years.
That's great that you are splitting up the vaccines. I encourage you to look up Dr. Tenpenny, she's on facebook I believe. Great resources and info about vaccines. I don't vaccinate my kids, and I know that sounds crazy. I used to be a nurse, and I was all about shots, but after researching myself and reading Dr. Tenpenny's posts, you might want to rethink getting them! Good luck :)
As far as I know, it is no longer being manufactured separately. I even called private travel clinics, but never found one.
That being said, we didn't vaccinate against Rubella b/c I had already separated measles and mumps and didn't want to repeat the MMR. He may or may not get it before kindergarten.
I am really not concerned about rubella. Its one of those things that for kids isn't a problem.
I don't know how old your son is, but you might consider not doing it and then waiting til later when they may decide (hopefully there is enough pressure to manufacture individual vaccines) to make it again. Or if you can get mumps and measles separately, then you can always titer his rubella levels later to see if he had it or was exposed to it without your knowing.

My sister had Rubella when she was 4. It almost killed her. It took her awhile, but she finally recovered. The bigger problem is Rubella exposure to any pregnant women as it can cause birth defects especially in the first trimester.
I know I found a site years ago (maybe on Dr. Sears website) that had locations of pediatrician's who were amenable to alternative vaccination schedules. That would be the first place I would look as a pediatrician will have access to medications and vaccinations that lay persons will not. Or you might try your county health department. They may be able to administer it.
Just to touch on not vaccinating against rubella. While it may not be a big deal for your child it could be a huge, devastating deal for an unborn fetus and his/her pregnant mom that comes in contact with a child that has rubella because they weren't vaccinated. Just a little food for thought.....
When I attemped to split the shots, I was told that Merck is no longer manufaturing them in single doses, and that they weren't available anymore. Good luck!
