eww eww eww. trash them.
either get those kids to wipe better
or
buy dark underwear so you won't see the streaks (out of sight out of mind?)
or better yet,
BOTH
What is the best method for getting streaks out of my kids' cotton underwear without fraying the fabric?
Thanks for all the responses. Aside from revisiting Booty-Wiping 101 with my kids, I'm in the process of trying out the Oxyclean or Spray n' Wash w/ Resolve after soaking the underwear in cold water for a couple of days. I am hopeful it may do the trick on the newer stains, as the older ones seem to be a lost cause! If I run out of Oxyclean, it's good to know regular old dish washing detergent might be a worthy substitution.

Buy them new underwear.
(Or you could try oxi clean, but my vote is still a visit to Target).
* I am seriously cracking up at these responses....
Really? Teach them to wipe their butt better and throw them away.
throw it away and get new ones... or buy dark underwear so you cant see the streaks
Okay honestly I just read Rebecca's answer- Really? your boyfriend? can you re-visit proper wiping with an adult? Sorry R but that just sort of cracked me up
A few things. . .
1. Buy new underwear and revisit proper wiping-I found my kids do much better with toddler wipes then regular toilet paper.
2. When doing laundry soak anything with a stain in some washing soda, wash as usual and sun to dry (the sun will naturally bleach)
I think you need to get to the...uh....source on this O.. Flushable moist wipes are amazing. Truly. I've NEVER had a streak in my son's undies!
i wish i knew, i hate that all of my boyfriends underwear has streaks in them!
@Rebecca maybe those toddlers flushable wipes for your bf? hehe :P
Hydrogen peroxide - put it on the stain, let it bubble, and wash in COLD water. Peroxide is the active ingredient in Oxi-Clean and the big brown bottle from the first aid aisle is a lot cheaper than the granules on the detergent aisle.
And FYI for those of you who use them, according to my plumber, so-called flushable wipes account for a large percentage of the stopped up toilet calls he gets. Even though the label says they're flushable and biodegradable, they take a long time to break down and can clog your sewer line.
Funny you should ask this. I just tried to rid them and I was successful. I dumped all the underwear and dirty looking socks in the washer (or you can put them in a bucket). Put A LOT of oxi clean on them, then put enough water to cover them (I used cold water, I think I have heard this is better for bleaching and for stains). Then I let them sit for two days. I then added detergent and washed. The underwear was perfect. No sign of stains (this is what I do for any stain on anyone's clothes). The socks were not perfect, but still better (they were all white socks (or at least used to be)). There is no reason to throw them out (as suggested).
Better wiping skills will help (wet flushable wipes, if you have young kids). You could try spraying with Shout or some other stain removal product.
You can bleach white underwear but the cotton doesn't hold up well for any length of time.
spray and wash w/ resolve works well. no scrubbing
I put cheap dishwashing liquid directly on the streaks then wash. They come out every time!
I agree with other posters - soak in OxiClean for a couple of days.
I use spray oxi-clean and found it to work nicely. If someone got sick I put some oxi-clean powder in the load.
It also works really nicely for woman's underwear and the inevitable spottings they get.
Spray whatever stain remover you use on them. If you have a top load washer, and the time, leave the lid open so the washer won't finish the cycle. Let them soak for an hour then close the lid.
I don't know how old your kids are but maybe keep a bottle of spray stain remover in the bathroom for everyone to use? I have a bottle in the bathroom and instead of my husband and son having to tell me about stains (since some are embarrassing such as the streaks), they just spray it themselves.
If the stains are really bad though I would suggest throwing them away and buying new ones.
