Hi N.-
This time of year...I recommend bubbles and sidewalk chalk!
Never met a kiddo (or an adult for that matter) that did not enjoy those...and they are cheap too!
Best luck!

Coloring books with marker set.
I would think you could find books for that price, either at the grocery store or at a book store. Do Berenstein bears or something for the little guys and an easy chapter book like Junie B jones for the bigger kids.
Reusable water bottle... you can put some candy inside and/or tie a balloon around the top
Kite (we've gotten them at Dollar Tree)
Bubbles & chalk in a sand pail
coloring book and crayons
book
art supplies
You know, I have never ever understood this concept of giving gifts to people who come to a birthday party. I just don't understand it....I mean, is the gift supposed to replace a thank you card for them attending at all?
Books, markers, chalk, bubbles, sticker book, craft from hobby lobby or someplace like that, ice cream gift cards to specialty ice cream shop
Washable markers. Kids can never have too many of those. (I'm actually maybe the one parent in the world who doesn't like getting bubbles or chalk. We have so many of both from all the birthday parties that I end up throwing them out - just will never use them!)
If this is something you do for your culture, that's cool. Bubbles or sidewalk chalk is great - you might be able to find a large container or something like that. But if it's not a cultural thing, I don't think it's necessary. I don't get this new trend for giving people gifts for coming to someone else's party. The kids get to play, eat cake and icecream. That's good enough, really.
Try orientaltrading.com they have tons of bigger things sports bottles and things of that sort you can personalize. They are usually sold in bulk or lots and break down to way under 3.50 a piece. I det you can find whatever you theme is or pretty darn close to it.
www.orientaltrading has items for kids -- It usually takes about 10 days from order time to delivery !
