Do you have any suggestions on how to remove ring around the collar? I have done the bleach thing, Shout, Tide on the stain for some time.. Scrubbed it.. I can get it to fade a little bit but you always see it.. I am considering more drastic options but would like to prevent damaging the shirts.

So annoying to look at a clean shirt that does not look clean. My hubby uses it for work so they are all like that.....

What can I do next?

My husband wears white shirts outside in Vegas all day for work. He gets a pretty good stain on the collar!

I use a pink bar soap called fels Napa to scrub the collar, then I add vinegar to the rinse. About 95% of the stain comes out. And yes I have to hand scrub them.

Step 1) The biggest pain: getting the wearer to wash their neck. This is harder for women, because it's usually our makeup / aka we're adding it. For men, it's usually laziness.

Step 2) Friction and scrubbing on the collar. A nail brush works fairly well

Step 2.5) Use something that breaks down body oils... Which is what is trapping the dirt in the fabric.

OPTIONAL: After it's been in the dryer etc a lot of it IS stain... But the BEST denatrurer of oils is ALCOHOL. Some gin/vodka/ever clear heated up a little will lift oils and the dirt under VERY well scrubbed in. Then soap scrubbed in gets rid of the rest.

Here's what I did for my sons' white shirts. I'd use Shout, then pour Tide or Wisk on the collars and cuffs. Then I'd use a brush and scrub them. I'd put some bleach in the washer and wash the white shirts in Tide, and I'd let them soak for at least an hour in the soapy water with bleach after agitating the washer so that the Tide got the washer water sudsy.

After washing the load, I did an extra rinse to get both an extra Tide out, and the bleach. If you don't get the bleach out, it will turn the shirts yellow. Be careful not to use too much bleach, or it will eat the shirts up prematurely.

It's a pain, I know, but you have to do this with white shirts if you want them stay white. When I was in college, I worked a summer job at a drycleaner. I worked the 5:00-9:30 shift in the evenings, and part of my job was to scrub and wash the shirts. That's how I knew how to do it.

Use a brush with natural fibers instead of plastic ones. That helps not tear the fabric up.

Good luck,
Dawn

The key to getting any stain out is friction. Whatever you use, you must scrub, brush or rub to get it out. Shout has always worked for me but you must have tougher stains to get out.

Hi! You consider buying a larger neck sized shirt, so that there is less actual contact with hubby's neck, most men do not re-measure their neck size frequently and still use their old size, when they weight less than they do now. In the military, we use a product called ZOUT it removes, blood, grease, ink, and other stains, I have seen it everywhere, it is expensive, but, the cleaning outcome makes it worth it... Also, the use of Oxi-Clean as a paste, and a small scrub brush at the neck area, is another method to remove stains, plus adding some of this to the wash, really loosens and brightens clothing. Also, you might want to ask your huby when does he apply his cologne, and other hygiene items, because if he is applying after he has gottne dress, the never-ending stain, just might be his colognes, so ask him to "perfume," first, and dress, after the colognes dry, before putting on his shirt, pants, etc. Good luck!

Shampoo is the easiest. Just put some on the ring and let it sit. I have never really scrubbed it, just made sure there was enough shampoo that it covered the entire ring.

make a paste with peroxide and baking soda let it sit overnight and rinse it out.. the stain should be gone.. tho scrubbing with shampoo and rinsing 1st would help a ton too..

We use shampoo, since it is the same oil and sweat that come from our heads.

Scrubbing the collar with Fels Naptha and vinegar helps.
Having your husband really wash and scrub his neck on a regular basis also helps.

All of my hubby's goes to the dry cleaners and there is never an issue.

On older shirts he wears and gets ring around the collar, I put straight detergent on the ring and let it stay there a day or so then scrub and wash.

Soft toothbrush dipped in Ammonia and work the stain. Ring around the color is mostly body oil and dead skin cells. I heared also that simply shampoo applyed to the ring before wahsing is suppose to help. I never tried but since shampoo breaks up body oils it makes sense. Good luck!!
