We always want what we can't have right?
I suppose I decided a little too late that I want another computer but want it ti have Windows 7 and have the capability to read/play DVDs. Someone suggested my only option may be to by a refurbished computer. Does anyone have experience with one? Is there one retailer that you found reliable? Any brands that are better or that I should avoid?

I went to the Dell outlet and got a great deal on a Scratch and Dent Dell. I don't see any scratches or dents, but the price was about half of what it was originally. If you don't see what you want online, chat with their reps. They can usually find what you are looking for.
Our last few laptops have been refurbished ones bought from Amazon or eBay. We've had great luck with them so far, just read seller reviews. Both sites have good policies so you won't get screwed over.
Right now my husband & I each have a Dell Latitude and we're happy with them. We hate to buy new because our kids tend to ruin everything. The 2 year old likes to pull the keys off, and my husband's laptop gets dropped a lot.
We only buy refurbished or returns.....cameras...computers...electronics in general. We have not had any problems and the are warrantied just like anything else. Plus...you can save money!
I am on a refurbished one as I type. I bought two from a local person here. I have had mine over two years, my son's is a year old. I love them. I have a dvd player , windows 7. I only payed $200 each.
Dell, per their Dell website, does sell refurbished computers. Certified.
Theirs, of course. Dells are good.

I would stick with Dell computers, per PC's.
And Dell is well known for their service and quality of computers.
Nowadays, computers are phasing out disk drives.
It is becoming obsolete as a storing medium.
Or use Thumb drives to load/download/play movies.
I bought my daughter's refurbished HP from Best Buy. Another good place to look is tigerdirect.com
I don't know about Windows 7, but I've been looking at Dells because we're a Dell family and the laptops I've been looking at have DVD drives.
I ditto the Dell (I personally keep an eye on apple's web site for refurbished items). This may veer from what you asked, but best buy has its own refurbished site where they scrub the data and offer to you and you can choose a two to three year warranty for like $18.
I got my son's 3DS from the site and he has had it for three years and it was a steal.
the website is called cowboom. It can be hit or miss, but thought I'd let you know if you wanted to see if there were different brands beyond Dell or Apple.

We have not had any problems with our toshiba refurbished laptop, but it is only a few months old.
