Another source might be the Al-Anon group in your area. Those meetings might benefit you and also give you an opening to find an attorney that is familiar with both drunks and the pitfalls of recovery. Even though everyone wants to feel they are 'unique' - especially alcoholics - there are many ways that alcoholics are alike. Knowing how they are alike will help both you and your attorney. That also applies to the 'enablers' that live with them for years. Can't hurt to try and you could use the help, too. Al-Anon teaches you how to act instead of re-act and helps you recover from the situation you have been living in. It is not a 'blame game' to see who wins and who loses --- hopefully, everyone will win.

BTW - AA teaches that no one should make a major decision for at least one year after drying out. That includes marriage, divorce and affairs. I'm trying not to judge but it sounds like his new playmate is leading him down the wrong path and his sponsor is falling down on the job.

Hang in there. There is life after AA! Get any and all help you can to understand both what is happening and yourself. Do what is best for you and it will be what is best for the others in your life. Protect yourself legally and emotionally the best way you can.

It has been 25 years but at one time I was where you are. You will survive and be happy again!

It might be a long shot, but if you have a women's victim shelter in Wichita, call them to see if they can offer assistance or a few names to call. I have found that my family dr is a good resource also.

paula kidd casey, or elaine reddick. both very good but not cheap. if you want out with anything you have to put up the fight. money is a huge deal, no way around that. I've been on the wrong side of both of these ladies and about half won after 3 years of battle. Paula though will not waste your time.

Hi, V.. It's been awhile since I've had to do anything regarding a lawyer, but I have used Morris Birch several times. So has my husband and my brother. My brother's wife walked out and he was served with divorce papers. In the papers, she listed EVERYTHING that she was coming to get the following Saturday. This was on Monday. I had him call Morris, and he stopped that nonsense quickly. As I said, it's been awhile, but you might give him a call. And from my understanding, Kansas is a women'a state and your husband may have to pay for your divorce. Ask Morris. Good luck, my dear!

SIgn up for divorcecare.org and find a support group near you. This is a all faith based program that helps with al areas of seperation and divorce. I am going thru a VERY messy one right now. My soon to be ex is an attorney so it is really bad and getting very expensive. Make sure that you protect yourself. Hiring any attorney is going to be expensive 100-300 per hour based on their rates. If you can prove that he is having an affair it would benefit you. Mine jsut kidnapped on of my kids over the summer for 9 weeks and left me with a 7month old at home.

DON'T let him file first if you can help it... this will put you on the defensive until it is all over. I have been in that situation for 20 months, and it is a terrible place to be with so little justice truly being served... doesn't matter how smart or right you are.

Call the local Bar Assoc. ASAP. I spent a ton of $$$ before finally calling the Pres of the JoCo Bar and getting HER (Jean Wise, great lady) recommendation! Tom Sullivan is the best, most honest, strong, trustworthy attny I've found here, and he may have some suggestions for you for Wichita(his office #: ###-###-####.)

Also, read your local family guidelines just so that you KNOW your rights. Be strong, but ask for help.
