Hello All! I need your help, AGAIN. My pediatrician has asked that I have my 10 month old tested for anemia prior to our 1 year checkup. Can anyone recommend a LabCorp or Quest Diagnostics that is good with babies? I am terrified of getting a technician that is not prepared to handle a child. Thank you in advance for your advice!

I just took my son to A.I. DuPont Hospital Outpatient. Confirm that your insurance is accepted, and you should have no issues. All of the staff there has pediatric experience (they have it posted on the wall in the phlebotomy area).

My son needed bloodwork several times while under the age of 1 y/o. Due to the amount of blood that he needed taken, LabCorp and Quest would NOT do it and we went to AI DuPont Childrens hospital. They were great there - very good with him! However, if you decide to go to Quest - there is one right in Pike Creek. It is off of Stoney Batter Road - in the complex close to the intersection of Limestone Road. Hope that this helps!!! K.
I don't know if any Lab has technicians that are good with babies. I always go to DuPont Children's Hospital. I know that it is in Wilmington, so it may be a bit too far for you, but they are really good with children. Both my sister-in-law and I go with our kids there whenever the doctor asks for blood tests.
Hi, B.. I too have taken my children to AI for blood tests and they are great with kids, however there always seems to be a problem with their billing dept. Twice now they have billed an insurance company that we don't have (and that always takes me forever to straighten out!) and they always neglect to send our doctor the results of the test. I started going to the Lab Corp in the Stone Mill Office Park on Yorkly Rd in Hockessin. They are right next to our Pediatrician's office so they're good with children and infants. Hope this helps!
ABSOULUTELY!!!! go to AIduPont hospital. Request Pat or Karen if they are there. My son is 2 1/2 and has had multiple lab draws since he was 1 month old. These two ladies are the best for us. Yes, it is a little drive but it is worth it. You can call ahead and get approximate slow times as they don't take appts. ###-###-#### is the main number.
If Pat or Karen aren't there, you'll still do fine. I always hold my child and if you nurse--you can cover up yourself and do that while the lab is being drawn to ease the pain.

ps If you're worried about the pain, there is a prescription cream called Emla that you can get to put on both arms 30 minutes to one hour before going for your lab draw and this numbs the first layer of skin and there will be no feel of a needle prick. It helps with all the IV sticks though he can still feel an IV stick. I don't use it anymore for routine labs because Pat talks to him and there is no tears. Also, I ask for no counting 1 2 3 as some kids recognize that. Good luck.
