It sounds like your sex drive issue could also be because you are afraid of getting pregnant. It sounds like you don't have much faith in the pill. It is only very effective if taken at the same time everyday. For me I was not able to do that so I have used a couple others that suited me better. One was the Ortho Evra patch which you change once a week. I loved that. Now I just had my second baby. We aren't sure if we will have another baby and if so it will be a couple years so I went with the Mirena IUD. It is spendy up front if you don't have insurance but it lasts 5-7 years and it is basically thoughtless and in the long run it is much cheaper. And it is as effective as tying your tubes without the surgery. My point is there are alot of options out there. Choose one that is much better suited to you so you don't have to worry all the time.

I was on Ortho Tri Cyclyn Lo for about 3 years and it didn't affect my sex drive at all. I was very anal about taking the pill every single day and at the same time (I used the alarm clock on my phone). I never got pregnant while on the pill and I rarely used additional contraceptives. Here's the part to be wary of...I didn't get my prescription in on time and so had a month gap in birth control. I got pregnant in the first 2 or 3 days after my period stopped. Usually birth control stays in your system for a long time, so it was pretty much a damn miracle that I got pregnant that quick.

As long as you're taking it religiously and at the same time every day, you should be fine.

Hi T.,

I took ortho tricyclin for a few years, and I found that my sex drive was a lot lower during that time. I noticed a big difference when I stopped taking that pill. So while there are a lot of things that can affect your sex drive (including not wanting to get pregnant, or being tired from chasing around 2 kids!), the pill could have something to do with it. If you're concerned about the lowered sex drive, switching birth control methods might help.

The pill is really quite effective if you take it religiously. Your odds of getting pregnant will also depend on when in your cycle you had sex. But if you've been taking the pill as prescribed (hard to do perfectly!), your odds of being pregnant are pretty low--though unfortunately there are no guarantees. I took that pill for at least 3 years (longer, I think) and didn't get pregnant during that time.

One of the other mamas mentioned the option of getting your tubes tied. If you're considering this, you might instead explore whether your husband is up for getting a vasectomy. The operation is much less invasive than is tying a woman's tubes. I've heard that IUDs can also be a good option (good for 5-10 years depending on type), but I haven't yet tried one myself.

I wish you all the best. Do try to pamper yourself during this waiting period and try to stay focused on other things until you know for sure--though I know all that is challenging. I'm guessing it'll all turn out okay!

Take care, Juliet

Not a weird question to ask. Ultimately nobody, even the doctors can say for sure with how different we each are physically, but commonly, the control will prohibit your ability to conceive for up to 2-3 months AFTER you stop taking the pill. If you know HOW you conceive (easily or with some help) then you can better tell, but most likely it won't be the next day after you have stopped taking your pills.

If you're really sure you don't want more kids. The best way not to have them is to get fixed. Have your tubes tied. Otherwise there is no guarentee you won't get pg. My cousin and my sister were both on the pill and both of them got pregnant anyway. Good luck!!!

I hate to tell you this... but my last two babies are Ortho babies. The sex drive was way down there also. I don't want to freak you out, because really the chances are slim... I think I am just overy fertal. (I now have my tubes tied)... which is another thought. If you don't want to have any more.... maybe you should think about it. It wasn't bad. I am so sorry if I have made you more nervous... but it is a reality that we always have to think about.
God Bless~ and maybe give some thought to a permanant solution of birth control. Take care~

You should get an IUD. I got mine when my daughter was a year old or so because I was so freaked out about getting pregnant again while taking oral birth control. My IUD was covered by my insurance and it is good for 5 years. It has been so great, I have no complaints. It has also made my periods almost non-existant, compared to before when I had heavy ones for 8-10 days. If I want to have children before the 5 years are up I can just have it taken out, or I can have another put in at the end of the 5 years. I highly recommend!

the pill is 99.9% effective and that .1% is dependent on you so I guess you have less than .1% chance of being pregnant so the odds are in your favor that you are not and you shouldn't have to use any other form of birth control if you are using the pill but I would suggest that you go in a talk to your doctor about your feelings because they can switch you to a different pill that will be more appropriate to your body. certain hormone changes like that can cause paranoia even over getting pregnant again. you shouldn't have to worry so much. I did the depo shot and got so paranoid of everything I could barely leave my house and the pill can do things like this as well I hope this helps and good luck

Dear T.,

I was on Ortho Tri Cyclyn for about 6-7 years without any other form of birth control and I did not get pregnant. Make sure that you are taking it correctly, if you do not feel that the pill is right for you, maybe you should look into other forms of birth control. My daughter is a year old now, instead of going back on the pill after I had her I had the Mirena IUD put in. I love it, at first it was a little uncomfortable but now I love it and I don't have to worry about remembering to take a pill or anything. It is also nice that I don't have to worry about having it removed for 5 years, if you do not want to have anymore children and do not want to stay on the pill, this may be an option for you. Anyway, I hope this helps.

Hi, T.. I was on that brand birth control for about 7 years. I had the same problem with the sex drive thing....my husband loves that I'm no longer taking it! LOL. Sorry, probably more info than you wanted....
Anyway, to answer your question, you should not have any problems...since you've been taking your pills for 5 months, the hormone levels should already be the way the drug is supposed to make them in your body. As long as you didn't miss any pills, I wouldn't be alarmed.
How long ago was this? Are you late for your period? If all else fails & you want some piece of mind, take a test to see. You should be fine, though....it only takes 1-2 months for the pills to become effective.

Good luck!

I can understand your fears....I took ortho for almost 4 years with no problems, and got pregnant the very cycle I tried 2x! so you know it was the birthcontrol preventing it. Its important to take it at the same time every day, and every day. I can not have more children now due to a health condition so I chose the merena IUD. Its very effective and doesnt require anything on my part, and is good for 5 years. It has a few drawbacks, like spotting and irregular periods for a while with me, but others have had no problems. ALSO your drop in sex drive is due to the hormones and is unavaidable with most birth controls involving them.
if you are really that worried about getting pregnant I would just use a backup every time. Double covered.
I dont know how old you are, but I know that we change so much over time, and so does our situation. I am really reluctant to look at a permenant solution (tubes tied) because you just never know where life will take you and there are so many other options out there.
