Rash and Itchy, Peeling Heels

My daughter developed a rash on her feet that really seemed itchy. The rash is not anywhere else so we know it's not the hand, foot and mouth rash/disease. The rash is on the balls of her feet as well as the middle of her foot and now her heels are cracked and peeling.

The doctor said it could be athlete's foot and suggested some spray... it doesn't seem to be working but I guess her rash is not getting worse either (but it's not getting better).

The doctor said she had to have "caught it" but no one in my household has it. I am wondering if the doctor is wrong.

What can I do next?

Does your daughter walk around barefoot outside, with animals in the house, at her friends, or in school? Kids take their shoes off and can pick up a little this and that. I know that is still my 2 YO's favorite thing to do is take off her shoes.

hmmm try using a pummice stone on her heels to get some of the dry itchy skin off. and maybe try some childrens benadryl (1/2 tsp every 4-6hrs) for the itching. it could just be dry dead skin. lotion her feet really well after a bath and before bed maybe have her wear socks to bed to hold in the moisture. good luck i hope this helps!

My son had something similar as a baby, as an adult he has psoriasis. See a skin doctor and watch for it in other places. Do an allergy check and consider what you clean your floors with. What about her shoes? Look for the simple things around the house. Bag Balm works well and the sock idea is great too.

Definitely get a second opinion. Did he prescribe any type of antibiotic? I think it rather strange that the doctor said it "could be" athlete's foot but then said she "had to have" caught it, but he doesn't sound sure, get a second opinion, or get more definitive answers from you doctor, don't hesistate, he is the professional.....GOOD LUCK!
