Have you tryed a oatmeal bath? You can get it at a wal-mart but it helps on things like that or there are other kinds there that will be ok for babies.. Good luck and hope he get's better

Why did you rule out it was an allergy? If it was something he is being exposed to on a daily basis, that would be hard to determine. Benadryl may not be strong enough.
I recommend taking your child to an pediatric allergist/dermatologist. They can skin test him and hopefully find something to get rid of it.

I wouldn't say its not an allergy just because they didn't think it "looked" like one three weeks ago. You might need to take you baby to a specialist - dermatologist or allergist. If its still that bad after 3 weeks he probably needs a prescription. He could be allergic to milk or soap. (most the perfume in soap)

It could be a fungal infection--e.g., Tenea Corporis . Fungal infections rarely improve without medication. If his pediatrician prescribed benedryl which is not working, take him to a dermatologist.

There are a few things that you can do! Try changing his diet - even though they said it wasn't. Its worth try. You give him solids yet? One week take away dairy or maybe try changing his formula.

Also, did you try changing laundry detergent? Maybe its something on his clothes?

Or maybe try a chiropractor and see if they can offer any wisdom?

Good luck! Hang in there, stuff like this is so stressful!

Oh, that is no fun. We've had the same experiences and this is what we did…we switched to All free and clear laundry detergent and use the second rinse cycle to make sure all the soap is out of clothes. We also only give them a bath in warm water using Dove Sensitive bar soap and only bath them every other day unless they are pretty dirty. These two changes helped them a lot. We don't use a lot of lotion but if we do it is Eucerin. Not the pump style bottle but the tub. They also have Keratosis Pilaris as another post mentioned and there is nothing you can do about it. Good luck you are on the right track and being a great mommy!

My oldest niece has skin that feels like pellon, not sure if that is how it's spelled but it's the stuff that you use when you don't want to sew, like the fusible webbing but bumpy- like "chicken skin" is what we called it. She has always had skin like this no matter how much/what type of moisturizer my sister uses.

My family was recently attacked by dry skin. For some reason it got really bad about three weeks ago. I don't know why it wasn't bad before that. Baby skin is very susceptible to this. Try Aquaphor (I think that is it). I found target has a up&up brand that is sold as a diaper rash cream. Same stuff just cheaper. It has a purple cap and has a picture of a stuffed bunnies bum on it. It is by the baby lotions and creams. Sorry I can't think of the name. One son has such bad dry skin on his feet he couldn't walk without them cracking and bleeding. This worked better than the high power medications we tried. Between both my boys we have been fighting eczema for 6 years. If you want, email me and I will get the name for you.

Sounds like it could be eczema, which could be a reaction to something in his environment.
My son has suffered from eczema, and it sounds very similiar to what you describe. We have done the following, and it has gone away-
All Free & Clear Detergent (or any Free Detergent, Dreft is not a Free Detergent, actually has lots of fragrance in it)
NO fabric softner
Dove or Cetaphil Soap
Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream works well for us (Sold in a tub)
You will also want to wash all your clothes in the same detergent, my son would get a rash if someone held him against their clothing!
Also be careful what lotions/perfumes you put on your body, be/c again they can rub onto him and cause problems.
Next step would be looking at his diet - if you have started solid foods - could be an issue, especially if rash appeared at the same time as starting the new foods. My son is not "allergic" to foods, but is "sensitive". We have had allergy testing done twice, and he shows no reacation, but if he has apples for example, then we get a rash.
My pediatrician also had us give him a daily probiotic, which I think also helped with the eczema.

The dermatologist is your best bet. I can't say for sure without seeing the rash, but mention of rough skin makes me wonder if it could be Keratosis Pilaris. If that is the case, there is nothing to worry about. However, it can be unsightly, but moisturizing helps.

Try Nivea creme (not the lotion) it comes in a blue container and is sold almost everywhere in the isle with the lotions. It works on dry skin & diaper rash, it is just really good stuff.
