My daughter had a diaper rash so bad last weekend that she could hardley walk. The rash was flat and bright red. Not bumpy. I put triple paste on it and the flat red rash went away and now she has about 5 fairly large red bumps, that look almost like chicken pox, left where the rash was. Does anyone know what this could be?
I actually have some nystatin cream from when she had a yeast infection when she was smaller. I will try that to see if it works. I have always had a hard time telling yeast infection from regular old diaper rash, even though she's had several of both. I just dont remember having these kinds of bumps last time she had yeast infection. Thanks for the advice!

Every once in a while I'll have the same problem w/ my 21 month old. Infact we just got over a case last week. I had my dr. several months ago just write me a prescription for Nystatin, with 5 refills so we could have it on hand just incase. You can only use it twice a day, but in between I've found a thick layer of desitin really works well w/ it. I hope this helps and good luck!

Hi S., I have 2 boys and mine hardlyhad a rash ever. I have a friend that had this problem and she tried all types of creams and lotions and it would heal for a short while and then be back. She changed the diapers to the store brand because that is all that was left one day and the rash never came back again. YOu might try that.
Best of luck

We have not had diaper rash this severe. When my son (now seven months old & breastfed)) has had it it's always when I've eaten highly acidic foods such as tomato, vinegar, and anything pickled. If it is yeast then you would want to avoid these foods for her as well.
Hope you get her feeling better soon.

This sounds like a yeast infection, my son had it and his doctor gave us a creme and some oral medicine that reduced the yeast and cleared it up in a couple of days.

I would have it checked out by the doctor. If your next well visit apt is soon, ask them about it.
My son works in a pharmacy while in school to be a pharmacist and he says if you go to a small pharmacy, there is a compound that the pharmacist will mix up for you and it gets rid of it fast.

You will need a yeast type cream to resolve the rash. You can use micanozole (over the counter) or you should call your doctor for nystatin cream.

Hi S.! :)
My daughter gets very bad rashes as well. She's now ddoing a lot better. Two things seemed to help for me.
1. I cut out all milk and cheese (seemed to make her poop really liquid and caused her to go more than was necessary)
and 2. I used an anti-fungal cream under her regular diaper rash cream and sometimes just on it's own. I'd read that often really bad rashes can actually be a yeast skin infection and that anti-fungal clears it up. Worked like a charm. Now I just keep it on hand just in case. :)

I would also go with the idea of likely yeast. In addition to the normal "bumps" that you get with yeast, it also makes the stool very "acidic", burning the skin.
I've had some luck with the gynelotromin, etc, but found that giving lots of probiotic powder and treating with colloidal silver (available at Wild Oats) and/or gentian violet (as a pharmacist) works better. Triple Paste has also worked great as an ointment. The probiotics help restore normal intestinal flora. The silver and gentian violet kill yeast. Good Luck!

Unsure, but hand, mouth and foot disease can get into the diaper area also. Do they have any sores/dots on their hands or feet? Probably should call your doctor anyway to ask.

It sounds like a yeast infection to me. They can be miserable for the little ones. My daughter had it twice after taking antibiotics. She would scream with every diaper change even after it went away. Call the doctor and describe what it looks like. They may call in a prescription for her.
Niastatin (spelling?) worked great for my little girl.

My dd has always gotten really bad diaper rashes (and still does at almost 3 if she is not changed out of a poopy diaper right away.) Some of the rashes sound similiar to what you are describing---large flat red splotches that looked like welts and they would get so raw I almost cried when I changed her. The best otc cream that I found is called "LiL' Goats" I have only seen it at Target but it may be carried someplace else. I recommend it to everyone....if your dd does have a yeast infection like many of the other moms think, you should definetly get the proper medication from your pediatrician. I would also say to get the "lil' Goats" to have on hand and try..........it can't hurt.
good luck

Hi. My son had plenty of these types of rashes when he was a few months. Doctor recommended to put hydrocortisone or just plain petroleum jelly, but Desitin does work best. Keep as dry as possible, no diaper. I use to just lay him down on the floor on a few towles and let him be free. You should check with your pediatrician though since girls may be different, I never had to deal with yeast infections with my daughter. Good luck!!

my now 2 year old daughter got a lot of those rashes when she was smaller they sound to me ike they are yeast rashes! Its not going to heal with regular diaper cram and in some cases it makes it worse! Id got to the doctor and have her checked! The will most likely give you a cream called nystatin It works wonders! when i used it on my daughter the rashe cleared up with in a day or 2! Good luck and i hope you get to the bottom of this soon, Its no fun to have a rash in ur bottom!

Whatever it is, You need to let the Baby's bottom air out. Do NOT let her wear a Diaper, just have her play in an area with a blanket that can be washed in case she pee's.
And at night, put Corn Starch on her bottom, to help heal.
I did this with my kids & this worked out great.
Good Luck!

My 3 month old daughter had a rash with raw spots on her bottom (I think that she had high acidity in her poopy). I had been using Balmex on her but was told by my pediatrician's office to try Desitin (original not creamy) and to put a teaspoon of baking soda in her bath water. If this didn't work after a few days it may be a yeast infection and then I was told to use Gynelotremin (I've probably mispelled this)but give your doctor a call to see what they say. Mine said to try the other first. I did this along with keeping her as dry as possible by letting her diaper be off awhile and patting her dry after using a wipe. This seemed to do the trick for me. Hopefully it will do the same for you.

Hey S., I'm a mom of two boys & I'm not sure what the rash is, but the absolute best diaper rash cream can be purchased through a local Arbonne representative. It is an all natural product & is great. I had a maternity/baby boutique and we sold lots of it because mom's thought it was GREAT. You may want to put a call in to the pediatic office if it doesn't clear up soon!

Hi S. -
You may want to try some Resinol. you can read more about it at www.resinol.com / I have used it with my four little boys with pretty good results. Ask the pharmacist to order Resinol through the pharmacy's regular wholesaler. Usually this routine request is filled daily and you can purchase Resinol at the pharmacy counter the next day. Hope this helps!
