I am not sure what the result of the blood test would be this time but this is the 3rd one she has had. Before the last 2 were a little high. I don't want my DD to be taking pills for the rest of her life and im looking for ideas of what i can do. I am going to see a specialist if the results are high again, but I wanted to know. Is there anything I can do to help my DD,any foods to avoid? any natural remedies for it? I am just confuse and worried. Thanks

Her TSH level was 5.22 and her T4 was normal

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Her test results were fine this time I am so happy about it. One thing I notice is that this time she did not eat that much tomatoes as usual. im not sure if that made a difference but im going to take that into consideration next time.

I'm not sure if this will be THE answer but I've read a lot into "natural and organic" living and it seems that A LOT of chemicals used in both food and cosmetics, such as lotions, toothpastes, even in water, have hormone disruptions in them, which can also lead to an unhealthy thyroid function. I'd strongly suggest that you get rid of all non-natural lotions, shampoos, etc and switch to organics or all natural. Food wise, especially organic dairy is important and non-hormone meats. Ideally organic fruits and vegetables too but at least wash these thoroughly. Good luck!

My understanding is that this is a lifetime medication. In my late 20's, I was diagnosed with a thyroid issue and I asked the doctor how would it affect me getting pregnant. She said that I wouldn't get pregnant unless my levels were right. In other words, my hormones would not be right unless I took the thyroid medication.

Besides having to remember to take the pill and get my levels checked once a year, there is nothing unusual I have to do. The best help you can provide your daughter is to make sure she has her pills and that you are working with her doctor to make sure you find the right dosage.

As far as I know there is no natural way to help this. If there was I would be using it. Yes she has to be on meds for the rest of her life. I was scared when they first diagnosed me. But it actually is no big deal. Think of that little pill like taking a vitamin everyday. Due what you can now to help her so that when she gets older and tries to start a family there won't be any problems. As long as her levels are stable she will be fine. You live your life as if nothing is wrong. Just some little inconviences like getting tested and going to the pharmacy every three months. Don't make a major issue out of it. Do what the doctor tells you and do some research on your own. But always listen to the doctor. Don't try to find some miracle natural remedy that may hurt her in the long run. But like I said don't make a major issue out of it. I have had thyroid disease for 12 years now and it does not affect my life in any way. Good luck to you!

I can see your concern. It is a medication that they will have to be on for the rest of their lives. My son has hypothyroidism, which means that his thyroid levels are low. The imbalance causes weight gain and other problems. His situation is different b/c he also had a cyst develop on his thyroid and it had to be removed along with his hyoid bone. I do have to say that we are lucky to have modern medicine that we do. There are people who have to have their thyroids removed due to medical issues. With supplemental medications we can live w/out out thyroid and still have a very healthy life. My son has to take a medication every day and I am just thankful that I have that to keep him healthy. He has his levels checked every 3 months to ensure the dosage is still correct and he is a happy healthy boy. If you find other natural solutions that is WONDERFUL, but if you have to resort to a medication it is manageable and will be okay. I wish you the best of luck w/your little girl!!!!

I would suggest booking an appointment with a naturopathic doctor to get some concrete info on how to treat your daughter's thyroid condition naturally. I just feel that your daughter is so young and the thyroid is such an important gland in your body, it would be well worth the money to consult with an expert on this. When you are pursuing a more holistic route of treatment, sometimes it's not just one thing you have to do; it's several things that work together to support and heal the body. If you try to do it yourself, it can be very crazy-making and also very costly when all is said and done.
