I am 36 weeks pregnant and went in this morning for a check up. Doc told me i'm dilated 2 cm and ripening quickly. My question is, i've noticed most of the morning now that i'm spotting. Is that normal? I don't remember it happening when I was pregnant with my son, just thought i'd ask all you other moms out there.

What can I do next?

From a mom who has had six babies, that is completely normal after an exam, and completely normal as you are beginning to dialate. As long is it isn't heavy bleeding or bright bright red, you are fine.

I know sometimes this does happen; however, I never spotted. Since you are so far along, I would just call your doctor. No reason to take the risk.

I'd be willing to be that you are having your baby by now so I hope things went well for you. Remember, every pregnancy is different, just like every delivery and every child! Best Wishes to your family.

When in doubt call your doctor, I would say it might just be time and things are progressing, but call your doc for sure! I have a 2 month old and a 22 month old, so our angels have the same age difference. Enjoy your time at the hospital and your moments alone with the new one! Your son will do great with his little sister but he will also wonder why he can't have you all to himself whenever he wants.:)

Call your doctor. it could be normal since you are starting to dialate already however, I had four children and the only times I ever had spotting, even a little dot, I called my doctor and was always glad I did because we caught a problem early. So it couls be anything from this id just your body this time around or it could be a symptom of placenta previa. Spotting after an exam is normal but you say you are having it during the week and specifically in the morning. So if you have not already, call your doctor and make sure you get in today. Have a safe last few weeks and God bless you and your new little one.

If it's just spotting, it's perfectly normal after a cervical check late in pregnancy. I'm actually surprised that your doctor's office did not warn you that it could happen. Mine always did.

Even though your request came in today's email, I noticed you actually posted it yesterday.
It is normal to have a little spotting after an exam especially this late in the pregnancy.
However, if you are still spotting today, I would DEFINITELY contact your doctor.. TODAY!
My sister-in-law started bleeding towards the end of her pregnancy and called her doctor who told her to go meet her at the hospital. They ended up having to do an emergency c-section because they couldn't find the source of the bleeding.
Afterwards, they found out that the reason she was bleeding was because the placenta was separating/tearing away from the uterine wall.
Very dangerous for both Mom and Baby.
This happened 3 weeks ago. Luckily, everybody is fine today.
I hope this isn't what's happening to you but thought you should be aware in case you are still bleeding or if the bleeding has increased.
Good Luck and Congratulations on your new baby!!

Spotting is totally normal after an exam. If it get's heavier (like a period) then you need to get to the hospital but if it's just very light - then it's very normal : ) Good luck with the soon-to-be new baby girl!!

I would think maybe you lost your mucus plug. I would call your doctor. It might also be that since the dr. checked you, maybe that caused some spotting. I would call to make sure :)

Call your doctor just to be sure. You are probably in preterm labor. Watchout for the mucus plug and your water breaking.
Congratulations!

Yep, totally normal! I spot after every vaginal exam when I am pregnant..esp in the end. I am just behind you at 34 weeks, and am not looking forward to being checked every week! Honestly, you can be 2 cm dialated for 3 weeks, or, you could be in early labor. Losing your mucus plug is a bit more than spotting, and for me was quite obviously my mucus plug. If it gets heavier as time goes by, then you may be in labor, but it should ease up by the end of the night. Good luck..I hope comes soon:) ~A.~

That is fairly typical after an exam. It should stop within a day.

I also spotted around that time. It was because of the changes going on - and the exam probably stirred it up. If it gets heavy, that would be a cause for concern. Call your doctor's office, and at least talk to a nurse, if you can, just to be sure. Everyone's pregnancy is different. But it is probably nothing to be concerned about.
