Has he had a doctor look at it. Sounds like ezcema or dermatitis. I use presciption Elidel for a similar condition.
Ugh, right, dry skin? that's something you want to read about on a friday night! :) Hubby says his ears are super dry, and they are. My daughter is developing the same dry ears! The inside of his ears and around the back side of his ears, the part that attaches to your head. Very very dry. I mean, they crack. and are very red. :( He says when he puts lotion on them, they break out into little pimples. Of course it's hard to see in a hidden place, but he knows. What do you ladies use for EXTREMELY dry skin, for sensitive skin? something that really works and prevents breakouts? Let me know your thoughts, I'd love to know. THANKS!

It's pretty common.
Sounds like a type of eczema, but it could be a couple of things.

Try Cera Ve. You can get it at the drug store. It's not cheap, but our dermatologist recommended it.
Sorry!!
Dawn
I have seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp but in the winter months I get it in my ears, behind my ears and in my eyebrows. It's really itchy and I need a prescription to truly make it go away. Is his itchy?
I would try Aquaphor and if that does not help then a trip to the derm. should be the next step.
I use Aquaphor for my own fall/winter dry skin. My little one has eczema, I use Aveeno Baby (even though she is 5) and it works like a charm. Good luck to ya :o)
Dermaltherapy is wonderful. I get extremely dry skin. I love this because it doesn't sit on top of the skin, it actually goes into the skin to help heal it from the inside. It doesn't leave a greasy feel on my skin. Ever tried to open a door after applying lotion and you can't. Never had a problem with this lotion. Love, love, love it!
Oh my... This is the current battle in my house. Sounds like what Sherri G. said. My toddler's face has new dry red patches all over and my hands look horrendous. Our relief is Aveeno and it does wonders. I put it on my daughter before bed and cover my hands as wells and it really helps.Hope this helps!
Also the Aveeno body wash is good and not as harsh as soap.
I know it sounds strange, but your shampoo may be contributing to the problem. I would try a natural hair care line, if I were you. There are many great brands, but I am using Aubrey's Organics right now and it's amazing! You can get it at most health food stores or you can google it and buy online.
I absolutely second the suggestion for Cera Ve lotion. That stuff is amazing!
CeraVe moisturizing lotion is the best non prescription product I have found. It was recommended to me by a dermatologist.
Another vote for checking them out with the doctor--could be an allergic reaction, eczema, or who knows what. In any case, it is very abnormal for that location and the severity, as well as breaking out in pimples when he applies lotion.
You might want to get it checked out by your doctor... I know, that seems silly to go just for some dry skin, but they can tell you what the problem is and what to use.
You may not have to go just for that, but if your daughter is in for another issue, show the doctor the dry skin, and they can suggest what to use.
I get these funny very dry flaky patches... one has been on my nose for several years, and also on one spot on my forehead, and also inside the ear...... the doctor called it seborrheic dermatitis. I haven't been able to get it to go away, even with the cream he prescribes for me..... it just kind of keeps it under check.
