Hi Lani,
I had the same pain the last 2 months of my pregnancy. It's a horrible pain, I know! For me it was just stretching ligaments. It will go away soon! Good luck!
Hi Ladies
I am currently 38 wks pregnant. I woke up the last 2 days w/ this increasing ache in the right side of my pelvis/groin area. It only occurs in the morning. At first i thought i might have a UTI, but it doesnt hurt to go to the bathroom & the pain goes away by early afternoon. Also, i have a bicornuate uterus & the baby is on the right side. Anyone else experience this? Should i chalk it up to stretched ligaments in preparations for labor?
Thank you for all your help. Its so uncomfortable that i limp when i walk for a few hours.
I have an appt w/ my OBGYN on monday. Hopefully this is normal.
Thanks for all your feedback.
Thanks for all the reassuring ladies. I spoke to my nurse at my OB's office. She said it sounds like a pulled groin. COmpletely normal. Ligaments stretching and such. Exactly what most of you said. The baby has had his head pusshing on my cervix since 30 wks. Ive been resting w/ a heat pad & took a tylenol. Seems to have helped quit a bit.
Thanks again for all your responses.
Hi Lani,

Hi Lani,
The baby may be posterior and pushing on the right side. Try putting your right leg up on a chair and lunging toward the leg on the chair. Also get on hands and knees, put your whole upper body on the floor and put your butt up in the air (the "Polar Bear"). Also make sure you're sitting up very straight while seated. A birth ball is good for this. When you sit on a couch do not slouch back.
Let me know if this helps. By the way, I'm a mom of 3 girls and a Doula.
I wish you the best of luck!!
I had similar pains during my pregnancy.....early on the Dr. thought it was round ligament pains and also a little baby arm or leg stretching out! It helped to move around more and to sit on a yoga ball. But.....at 37 weeks I had the same pains and the next night my water broke! Ha!
Good Luck!
Hi,
NEver experienced this... but it doesn't sound normal to me. I would call your doctor and ask to be seen today or go to the hospital to get checked out.
Take care,
Aarti.
I also had this beginning at my 8th month. It would be the worst in the mornings when I get up. I called my Ob about it and she wanted to see me ASAP. She checked me thoroughly. Luckily all was normal, and she said it's due to ligamental strain/stretching (the ligaments that hold up your uterus).
However, you should not take this lightly and call your OB rightaway. It could be something, it could be nothing.
I had issues like this starting at 22 weeks. I was carrying twins but still. The doc office first tried to caulked it up as "back pain". Ugh, no. Then they caulked it up as UTI. Nope. Twice and two hospital visits later. My daughter was laying super low which was part of the problem. But I would call your doctor immediately. You and your baby are okay I am sure but I would call and ask to be seen. You may need to be on rest for the remainder. Good luck and congrats!
I'm at 34 weeks and have something that sounds similar. The pain is on the front right around where the crease in my leg is when I sit down. I find it especially hurts when I first stand up but doesn't bother me unless I'm standing or walking. Sometimes it's not there at all.
Who knows. I've chalked it up to ligaments. I've gone for a few massages and that's what they think too.
My thoery is that the more pain now will just build up my threshold for the pain of labor. :-) Good luck!
I had this with one of my pregnancies and it had to do with carrying low. I was on bedrest for the last 7 weeks of each of my pregnancies(3). I would definitely call the doctor today to make sure nothing is wrong. Better safe than sorry. Good Luck!!
It honestly sounds like round ligament pain, which I had with all 3 of my pregnancies. It's a normal part of pregnancy.
HOWEVER, ANY new pain or discomfort that concerns you should be discussed with your doctor.
Lani -
Be sure to call your doc if you notice any swelling in that leg. I had an ache that grew to a pain in my left groin that caused me to limp and later realized that my leg was beginning to swell and I ended up being diagnosed with a DVT that started in my groin. I don't tell you this to scare you - but rather, they missed my DVT the first time I mentioned it and as a result it grew rather large and now it is "chronic" because they did not catch it early enough.

I'm 29weeks prego and have the same pain you're referring to-on and off. I've asked my OB numerous times and she said that it's perfectly normal. It's just the round ligament pains and also your bones spreading, in preperation for labor, plus the weight of your uterus and baby. I get the groin pain and also pain in my buttocks and thighs - sometimes dull aches and other times a shooting type pain. All normal!!! No worries! You're 38 weeks, so you're probably welcoming labor! But if any other odd symptoms happen, such as a change in discharge, you may be losing your mucous plug and also bad lower back pain is a sign in labor starting (etc.) If those groin pains keep you up at night - then that's a different story - but you wake up with the pain that eventually ceases, so I'd chalk it up to your bones tightening and cramping during your sleep- it's not like we can find the most comfortable positions with our big belly's! haha.
Good Luck!!
