My 3 yo DD currently wears pull-ups to sleep at night. She has been wearing the same brand (Pampers) without a problem for her entire life so far... (I put her in pull ups around 18 months when she started wearing regular underwear during the day.) I tried putting her in thick training underwear with a plastic liner over the top to sleep in for a few weeks, but that just caused her to break out in a nasty rash so I put her back in pull-ups. This was several months ago, and she has not had any issues between then and now.

Lately though, (last 5-6 weeks) she has been complaining at night about her tummy itching. It's the area between her hip bones and belly button, and only while wearing a pull up. She never gets any kind of rash or redness that I can see or feel, just itchiness. I tried a few different brands, but every kind seems to bug her. I even got small pack of diapers, thinking they may be less likely to irritate her, but it didn't help. I tried putting her back into the training underwear, but within 3 nights of that she had already gotten a nasty diaper rash. The only thing that seems to help is for me to rub a little baby powder (cornstarch-based...) on her skin before putting the pull up on. Sometimes one application is enough, sometimes she will call me in 3-4 times for more.

Any advice? I would get some of those flat pads and let her sleep naked, but she sleeps ALL OVER the place, so most likely would wind up sleeping in a giant puddle anyway. I'm not sure what my best option is, other than just keep on keeping on with the baby powder.

What can I do next?

Put a pair of cotton panties on under the pull up. It protects her skin from any seams or gathers on the pull up top and it also allows the pull up to get more air around the closer parts.

If it were me I would try just cutting a bit off the top of the pull up. Like just a rectangular patch that would let her belly area breathe. If that didn't work, I would just use a diaper. My boys did a diaper at night for a little bit before they were night trained. Hopefully this will be a moot point soon, my three yr old is sleeping all night without peeing for awhile now, hopefully she will be soon! Good luck!

It could thin layer of vasoline or Aquaphor on the irritated area (even if it's no longer irritated). That should help put a barrier between her skin and the diaper.

Maybe some A&D ointment on the area? Hope she gets over it soon, poor baby!
