The probiotic strains that seem to be most recommended (I have not researched it to see validity of any of the studies) are:
* Bifidobacterium lactis (BB-12), (http://www.ajcn.org/cgi/reprint/79/2/261 )
* Lactobacillus reuteri (American Type Culture Collection 55730) (http://www.ajcn.org/cgi/reprint/79/2/261 ) -
*Lactobacillus GG (according to Culturelle,Dr Sears)
* and -Dr. Sears suggests: acidophilus , or another probiotic like Culturelle®, . Culturelle contains another beneficial probiotic strain, Lactobacillus GG
You want to read the ingredients VERY carefully – there are a number of probiotics for children/infants that have streptococcus thermophilus – you will want to avoid this because it is milk based
I noticed A LOT of the probiotics have milk products in it (e.g. Nature's one, FloraBABY Probiotics for Infants & Toddlers, jarrow baby jarro-dophilus plus and Udo erasmus all contain milk) :(
Culturelle for Kids is dairy free and safe for 6 months and older http://www.culturelle.com/your_health/culturelle_for_kids
