I know that you don't want a mommy & me class, but if all else fails, call the Wellness Center in Cape Coral. I had looked for months for swimming lessons for my grandson (age 2). No one would "teach" him to swim until he was 3 years old. We live in Flordia. Children should know how to swim before they can walk. We had signed up for a class with Parks & Rec, but that was only to get him used to the pool. His mom has a pool & he needed to learn to swim! Finally, I saw an story in the News Press about the Wellness Center. I called, and he had his first lesson yesterday. In the half hour that he was there, he learned how to get out of the pool if he would fall in, he swam under water for a few feet (with a little help), he learned not to panic if he went under the water, & basic arm & leg movements. I was very impressed! We are not members of the Wellness Center, so the cost was higher. But, $90 for eight lesson is still a good price. There are only 4 in his class, but when I signed him in the first time, they asked me if he was there for group or private lessons. Good luck!
