Have you tried Shutterfly or Lulu.com? I've used Shutterfly for photobooks and they are always fabulous quality for about $20.
My mom recently retired and I have been begging her to type up all of the family recipes now that she has more time on her hands. She loves the idea of writing a book and I thought it would be a nice idea to acually print it, or “publish” it in hard cover. Not to sell it or anything… just a few copies to distribute in the family.
Has anyone ever done this? Can you recommend any websites and how much did it cost you approximately?
Thanks in advance!

Check with your local copy center- many of them have "custom options" that will allow you to do this!
Never done one, but in a quick search I found this website that looks pretty cool. Sounds like a wonderful idea!
A friend of mine used this site
http://www.blurb.com/
The book was really cute and very durable, still in great condition after many years of use.
Try LuLu.com. I know a few people who have published on there. I'm almost positive that there is a way to make it not for public. Also.... Blurb. They do a GREAT job! I'm a photographer and order all my portfolio books through them. I've never seen their plain text books though.
Try www.lulu.com. I haven't used them yet but Kim Kammando recommended them on her radio program. Price will depend on size of the book and how many pages it is.

Hi Adriana,
I'm using blurb.com to publish a children's book I'm doing for the family.
Have fun!

find a local printing company and get a quote from them . My son's dad works for a shop and he cuts all the books. He can't tell me how many family made recipe books and family genealogy books he's had to cut.
I make hardcover photo albums using sites like Shutterfly and Picaboo and I know you can select a "text only" page layout. They cost about $30-35 for a 20 page book, depending on page sizes. You could even do mire than one recipe per page, to maximize the book at the least cost.
Years ago, for Christmas, father made us a recipe book of our family favorites. Since he had beautiful print he hand wrote the recipes, than took it to a local copy/print shop and had them copied onto heavy stock paper. He added a cover and had it bind with spiral binding.
20 years later, I still have my copy of our family cookbook and my son enjoys picking recipes to try.
Creative Memories is good. They will print books, and family members can order them. The books don't have to be photo scrapbooks; they can be journals, recipes, photos of the completed dishes, etc. A Creative Memories consultant can be located from their website.
Talk to your local FedEx Office Print and Ship Center. They can help you with this.
