So What Happened?

Thank you mamas,
the reason i am asking about the price is that i have no maternity coverage with Blue Cross Blue Shield/i figured that one when i got pregnant / and i did called and ask for reduced price from the perinatologist billing office.

Thank you

I would suggest to call the radiology office and find out what the charge is and if they offer a prompt pay discount or payment plan options. I work in medical billing and while small independent offices have room to negotiate fees with patients, larger facilities do not. (until after it is on a payment plan or goes to collections.) However they should allow you to make a partial payment and set up a payment plan for the rest. Usually the charge is around $800 but varies from place to place.

Why won't your insurance cover it? Is there a problem that he is sending
you for this? If so, you could probably get around the insurance issue.

Are you sure they aren't covering it? Did you call and check already?
I would think since you are being sent to a specialist it should be covered.
Maybe the Doctor you are seeing isn't covered, maybe another specialist is?

if it is medically necessary then yes they should be covering it unless the doctor you are being sent to isnt in their network in which case you can go to another doc that is. and i would think twice about the amnio. i had to see a Perinatologist along with my reg OB during both pregnancies, and the perinatologist and 2 different OB's both told us that with an amnio you have a 1 in 500 chance of miscarraige. not worth the risk, IMO.

Regardless of what the actual price is, you can negotiate it with the radiologist BEFORE you get the scan. THere are also cash discounts for people paying cash for medical services.

Good Luck!

LIke others mention, no real way of knowing without asking. but my stage 2 cost about 900 according to my EOB. And an amnio can cost about $2000 according to an estimate I had requested. If the insurance says they will not cover and it is not totally explained in your benefits, try to appeal the decision. If still not, you might be able to have a lower amount due by talking to the doctor's office. A friend lost her jo and of course insurance and then found out she had a high risk pregnancy. She did a lot of tests and amnio. Her hospital and doctor's office gave her reduced pricing. She lived on the East Coast at the time.

my amnio and the ultrasound that was done at the same time was billed at $3000. of course my insureance paid much less than that.

I remember hte cost .. as I thought it was really expensive cuase the dr came in.. looked at teh ultrasoudn for 1 minute and then stuck a needle in my belly and he was out of the room fast as lightening..

We can't tell you that. You need to contact the specialist and discuss your insurance. Find out why the insurance isn't covering and go from there. Doctors will frequently change their fees for those that have to pay cash.

I don't have an answer specifically for your question but I did want to tell you that I have had the experience when I don't have insurance for a dr. visit that if I ask some of them will give a discount of around 25 %. The worst that could happen is they say no. Just explain the no insurance situation and ask if they would be kind enough to extend you the courtesy of a discount. Whatever the price is, a discount will help!

Call the specialist's accounting office and ask. They'll also be able to tell you if they'll set up a payment plan for you if you can't pay it all at once.
