I'm moving to MPLS this summer and we are planning to live around the Seward/Longfellow neighborhood. Does anyone have recommendations for a (preferably) half-day preschool program? Thanks!!

What can I do next?

My girlfriend sends her daughter to JOyce Preschool in Seward which has a Spanish Immersion program. She has really enjoyed it.

My 2 year old goes to Seeds Family Child Care. It's close--17th Ave S and 32nd St--just across Hiawatha from the neighborhoods you're looking at. Great teacher. Small enrollment. E-mail me if you want the number.

Mayflower Preschool ###-###-####) is great, though it's not in Longfellow/Seward. But, it is right off 35W at Diamond Lake Road, so it is pretty convenient. The program is Mon-Wed with either a morning or afternoon session. Most area schools are enrolling now for next year. I coordindated a S Mpls preschool fair the past two years for ECFE, if you'd like a complete list of the schools that participated this year, let me know and I can e-mail it to you. Welcome back! S.

Hi E.,

We lived in Prospect Park up until a few months ago, and both our kids went their entire pre-school lives to Wee Care Day Care on the campus at Luther Seminary on Como Ave. in St. Paul - which isn't really that far from Seward. It is a "day care" but they do lots of educational stuff and it's very structured. They allow part/flex-time schedules. They have an indoor gym and lots of choices for outdoor play. B/c it is associated with Luther Sem it IS semi-religious (and I'm not very) but it is pretty benign. E.g., they have a Christmas program. Also I find their prices very reasonable. Because they are on the Seminary campus there are lots of international students' kids ... I just love the mix and the atmosphere. They are at ###-###-####.
