Hi Moms- Currently my son who turned 3 in July 2010 is attending an in home day care that he has been attending since he was 10 weeks old. He loves this place and all the friends he has made there. The problem that I am facing is this: all his class mates which range in age from 5(olderst) to 3 (youngest) will be moving on to be with kids their own age. The 5 year old is going to a montesorri school and the other two are going to a daycare closer to home. My son has always been in the middle of the youngest and the oldest which has been an advantacge for him concerning the teacher taught to the oldest and the other children followed along. When these last two boys move on in January, my son will be the oldest and the closest to his age will be barely 3. I am concerned that he will regress and I am considering moving him on as well. My question is...how do I find a preschool with good ratings and close to home and are there any recommendations for preschool or montesorri in carrollton?

What can I do next?

M.:
As a mom. I highly suggest sending your child to a good montessori program. You will be amazed at how much he will learn. While I do not have a suggestion for Carrollton- I do suggest that you visit several. Just compare it to a regular daycare and you will be shocked at the difference. It is a calm enviornment - no screaming and the children are so loving. We had to switch my daughter out of Montessori to a regular daycare and my what a difference. She loves her new school as well but I can tell a HUGE difference. Your son will be more than prepared for kindergarten when he turns 5. He may even be reading by then. Good luck!

Try www.greatschools.org to find preschools in your area. Often there are parent ratings, too.

I can't recommend a specific preschool in your area, but I found a Kindercare near me that I've been very happy with. You should visit different ones, as some have an open structure and some have a classroom structure (I prefer the classroom structure). The rooms are set up by age, but are older 2's/young 3's, older 3's young 4's, etc. so they are with the developmental age group rather than just the number. Hope that helps a little!
