Pregnancy Sleep Issues

I am 4 months pregnant and have been sleeping on my left side for some time now. I am having difficulty remaining in this position due to the pressure on my left hip. I have tried a big/body pillow (I sleep w/ a pillow between my knees and tried one under my hip) but it's still really uncomfortable. I am not sleeping well at all.
I would welcome some sleep suggestions and any suggestions for maternity pillows. The ones I have seen seem to just support the belly as it gets bigger. Any input would be most welcomed. Thanks.

What can I do next?

Hi A.,

Congratulations on your pregnancy! Sounds like your going to have your hands full:)

It's important you take care of youself too. Are you not sleeping because you're in pain? Or because you just can't get comfortable? Have you ever tried seeing a chiropractor during your pregnancies? I got adjusted during all three of my pregnancy and it was wonderful. I was able to have pain free pregnancies and my deliveries were all natural too. It helped so much to make sure my pelvis/low back was is alignment so I could have normal function during the day and I could also sleep soundly during the night, which is especially important when your chasing around a toddler too:) I'd definitley recommend seeing a chiropractor. It will make the rest of your pregnancy so much more enjoyable. I can refer you to a chiropractor in your area if you'd like. I practice in Danville if you're interested:)

Take care and I hope you to hear from you soon,
B. S.

I don't know about the pillows, but you can sleep on your right side too. Actually you can still sleep on your back for about another month if you needed to. It's the 5th month and beyond that they don't want you on your back. I carried low and toward my back so I was able to kinda half lay on my side and my belly throughout the whole pregnancy. Make sure you're taking enough calcium. It will help you sleep as well.

One of the many joys of pregnancy...not being able to find a good sleeping position. To be honest, I had a really tough time getting comfortable on my left or right side. My baby is so active that she would wiggle down onto the side I was sleeping on and it would feel likes a ton of rocks underneath me. That put a lot of pressure on my hips too. My doctor finally told me to stack two "memory foam" pillows on top of each other and then put my favorite pillow propped up infront of the stacked pillows. I sort of propped myself up like that on one side or the other. I then had the body pillow under my belly and between my knees. It has helped quite a bit although I still need to switch positions every few hours. Sleeping will only get more difficult and try not to get too frustrated. Just keep trying different ways to keep yourself more propped up which will help take the pressure off. Good luck!

You don't have to sleep on your sides just yet. So sleep however you are comfy right now. In another month or so you don't want to lay flat on your back. You can roll up a towel and prop it under your bottom/hip area to elevate one side or the other (we do this to the mamas come into the labor and delivery room) or you can pull one leg up and roll over onto your belly for a while. The weight of your baby can slow the blood supply that provides blood to your baby so as long as you are not flat on your back, you are just fine.
Blessings,
L.

I am not for sure if sleeping in a recliner can help at least a few days out of the week.
I know I slept in one designed to help you in and out and has heat and massage, which I bought due to a shoulder and knee surgery. For the surgery problems it was a god send and might help you as well get a day or two good rest.
Try seventh avenue.com and look at their selection, or you local good furniture store can show you some good chairs. A thought for you. Also a sheep skin top to your bed is very comfortable and helps relieve pressure points. D.
