My daughter is almost 5yrs old and doesn't make the cut-off for Kindergarden. She's already attended 2 yrs preschool at NNA and I would like a different school for this last year. She's already socially, verbally, and academically advanced. Interested in a school that's either thematic based and/or maybe has a strong focus on fine and gross motor skills. ie. playing outside, playing catch with a ball, scissor cutting, anything where she focuses more on the big picture rather than the small details. Any recommendations or ideas for me???

What can I do next?

Hi, I don't know if you've considered it, but you could have her tested for early entrance to kindergarten if she will turn 5 by the end of October. You say she is advanced in all these areas, so I wonder if she would be bored waiting another year to begin. My daughter was advanced and we put her in early. It has worked out great. I'm not sure what school district you are in, but ours (Snohomish) required an independent evaluation by a psychologist who specializes in children and such evaluations. I believe there was also some kind of application the parents filled out. As I recall it cost about $300 but was well worth it. Anyway, it would be worth considering so check with your district. (P.S. You have an unusual name. . .did you used to attend MOPS at Alderwood? I had someone at my table a few years back with your name)

I don't know if you have thought about it, but home schooling is a great option. Then you can focus on whatever you'd like and she can be as socialized as you like.

I am the chairperson of Snohomish Cooperative Preschool and we also have openings for that age. Our teacher is very good at looking at the big picture and setting up activities for the children to work on all their skills, both fine and gross motor, academic, social and emotional. She sets up different themes that go with the seasons of the year. You can contact us at ____@____.com Our web address is www.snohomishcooppreschool.com

We go to the co-op at Edmonds community college. Their curriculum is play based, with different theme every month. There are a lit of opportunities to play outside, use scissors and other art related items, and it's really good for learning social skills. Plus you get to be involved in what thy are doing and learning, and there's wonderful parent education as well. We have a waiting list currently but feel free to contact me or check out our website www.cffcoop.org! Good luck with your decision, I know how important these things are!
