Potty Training When Sick

Hi. We are in to "heavy duty" potty training one week today and my son is under the weather. He had diarreah last night so I've put a pull up on him (vs underwear), but I am still attempting to get him to go pee pee today. Need advice from mothers who have potty trained. Should I maintain consistency even when he's not feeling well? Or is that pushing too much?

Also, we have not gone "poo poo" on the potty. Do you just have to know when to catch the child and scoop him up and put him on the potty so it happens once? I'm kind of at a loss...any advice would be appreciated.

What can I do next?

I wouldn't push it too much when he's sick. Maybe, if you just remind him to get all of the yucky stuff out of his body (including poo poo) so he can feel better, that might get him to want to go on his own.

It's difficult to do with diarreah, because you can't really tell when it's going to hit. Poor dear, I hope he's feeling better soon.

Hi K.,
Yes unfortunatley you have to be consistant.try to take him to the bathroom every 15 - 30 min and just have him sit there. I had to do that with my boys and what I'm doing now with my 2 yr old. It is a pain but if you could tough it out he should be potty trained with in a week.
Keep up the good work:)

It's entirely up to you. But honestly the sooner he connects having to go potty and doing it no matter how he feels the faster he'll be trained. Help him use the potty a few times a day, and in between times ask if he feels the need to go. That will help him learn to tell you when he feels the need to go.

I was told to stop when they are sick as they have enough going on. Just start up again from the beginning when he feels better. Potty training is a big step. I think you are right to want to comfort him right now and take care of the training later.
