Potty Training or Big Girl Bed?

I have sort of hit a wall with my daughter. She is 2 and 2 months old and she is very advanced for her age, BUT she wants NOTHING to do with the potty. She will come to me to change her when she goes in her diaper because she doesnt like it on her and i will put her on the potty and/or ask her if she wants to use the potty and she wants nothing to do with it... I tried bribing her and leaving her on it and she just doesnt care to use it,

I also do not know when I get a big girl bed. I feel like I need to get her one before she does use the potty or it defeats the purpose of her putting a diaper on a night being in her crib.

Maybe i am stating this all to early?

She's almost too old for a toddler bed so go with a twin or larger instead. She's plenty old enough to be in the bigger bed.

She's just not ready for potty training. When the kids are ready it is very easy. It's the trying to get the kids to do something they aren't ready for that makes things hard.

Yup - too early. Your daughter is showing the signs of simply not being ready for potty training. You will drive yourself bonkers if you keep pushing her. Instead, sit back and wait three months and try again. Potty training is so easy when a child is ready.

As for the big girl bed... there's no reason why you can't switch her now. We moved our girls at 20 months and they did fine. But it wouldn't have mattered what bed they were in because my one who is night time trained never gets up to pee at night. Never. Ever. So she could be in a crib and have no problems. My other daughter isn't night time trained at 4.5, so it doesn't matter where she sleeps either!

Be patient. It will happen when SHE is ready. Wait a couple of months and try again. As for the bed, my daughter was in a bed at around 2. She didnt want anything to do with the crib. Pedi recommended that it was time for a bed. Made her feel like a big girl.

She isn't ready to potty train. And that's okay. She'll show interest when she's ready.

I advise getting the "big girl bed." Be sure to put a vinyl sheet on it under the fitted sheet. Let her get used to it...and talk about the potty a lot and how big girls in big girl beds use the potty...but don't pressure her too much. She'll show interest when her BODY is ready to learn to hold it. If you push her too early, you'll be in for several years of bedwetting and frustration.

ETA: By "big girl bed" I mean a twin bed. Put the mattress right on the floor so she can get used to the size of it for several weeks...and if she falls out, no hurts. Then add the foundation once she is reliably staying in the bed. Toddler beds are really a waste of money and a pain in the tail. Don't bother.

As some other moms said, potty training is very easy when the child is ready. So what if she is advanced for her age, obviously in this area she is right where she should be. I think you need to cut her some slack. She can go to a big girl bed anytime. But is she sleeping well? If so, leave her in the crib. I am personally against toddler beds because its the same mattresss so really, what is the point? We went to a full size bed when my son was a couple months shy of three and he loved it immediately. No need for a guard on the side or anything really. He then potty trained in a matter of weeks right after he turned three.

We switched my son to a "big boy" bed because he was climbing out of the crib at 2 yrs. He did great with potty training, it was totally separate from the bed. He's 4 now & fully trained, day & night, and having diapers in the big bed was never a concern.

My daughter is 2 1/2, fully potty trained, and still in her crib. It is no problem for us at all. She calls us if she has to potty in the middle of the night but she rarely has to go at night. She has a toddler bed but wants to stay in her crib. She needs help on the potty anyway so even if she was in a toddler bed, we would still need to get up and help her.

Stop the potty training completely and return to it in a month or so. You're at the young end. If you keep trying and pushing it on her, everyone will just be annoyed.

As for the crib, we moved my daughter when she climbed out of hers. She was 2 1/2. She also potty trained around that time, but wore a diaper at night for another year or so. Its true that some children night train very quickly, but I don't think its the norm. So I wouldn't worry about coordinating the training and bed change.

Good luck!

potty training when she is aware BEFORE she goes potty!

My son is 21 months old and we're potty training... even if he pees, he brings me a diaper, he HATES being in a dirty diaper. Each kid is different. My point is, age means nothing, it's all about them being ready.

If you'd like to begin potty training but SHE'S not quite there yet, I'd get her in a big girl bed NOW. This was, when she IS ready to potty train, you're not throwing 2 things on her at once, and she'll be able to get out of bed if she has to pee at night. It would make for an easier transition.

And it's not too early to put her in a big girl bed... my daughters were 9 months, then 10 months when they went to the toddler bed. My son, he's still in a crib, which I'm kicking myself about because he wants to use the potty!!
