Potty Training Fustrations...

I am trying to potty train my 2 1/2 yo daughter but can not get her to go on the potty for anything! She'll sit on it when I ask her but she never goes. I know she's ready because she has started changing her own diaper after she pees in it [she'll take off the wet diaper, clean herself, & put it all in the Diaper Genie, then bring me the new diaper b/c she can't put it on herself]. I have tried the pull-ups cool alert, running water while she sits on the potty, rewarding her with M&M's to get on it [when she refused] but now I tell her she can only have M&M's when she goes pee pee but nothing is working! I was putting her on the toilet every 15 minutes but she would just pee in between sitting on the potty. I am new to this and beginning to pull my hair out... in secret! I haven't let her know I'm getting fustrated because I don't want to scare her but I really am starting to think she isn't doing it b/c her dad & I want her to. Thanks in advance for your advice... I'm hoping one of you will have the secret!

What can I do next?

My little boy turned 2 in april. He wld not get on the potty for anything. I finally got one of those little seats that you can put on top of the regular seat. He loves Elmo so I got one that had Elmo and stuff on it. Now he tells me mommy i go peepee on Elmo. I know they have them with all kinds of characters on them. Maybe that would help. (I got mine at Target) Oh and it helps him b/c he doesn't feel like he is going to fall in the potty.,

Let her run around naked or in underware. She obvisoly doesn't like the feeling of being wet. I found that waiting tell my children wanted to use the potty was the best. Good luck.

Hang in there. I had the exact same problem. I thought my daughter would never go to the potty. Keep trying. If you get them to pee in the potty once or twice they will get the hang of it. It took me putting her on the potty it seemed like a thousand times. Good luck.

My husband are also going through the potty training ordeal right now. Our son is almost 3 and up until the past couple of weeks has outright said "no" to going on the big potty. One day we just told him that the pullups/diapers were all gone and we would have to get more at the store later. I really just put them in another room and would pull one out for naptime or bedtime--without him seeing of course. He seemed to go for the "have to get more at the store" excuse. Anyway, I previosly picked up some of the thick absorbent underwear and plastic training pants (for going out of the house) at Babies R Us. I put these on him and explained not to pee pee in these big boy pants----also, someone gave my son a little potty book called The Toddler's Potty Book (by Alida Allison--on the back it looks like it cost $5.99). We started out reading it while he sat on the potty (sometimes 3 or 4 times). The book just says little phrases like "wet pants are no fun" and "going to the potty is easy". He seemes to like these phrases and repeats them constantly. He didn't go pee pee right away on the potty but went in his underwear a few times (all the while I'm repeating "wet pants are no fun"}. Finally after a couple of days he managed to go a little on the potty and we would say "see it's easy" just like the book. After a 3-4 days I guess he started to put it together about bladder control and how you make yourself go and now he can do it. You might try this. It may work for you.

could be a control issue. Give her ALL the control over the issue. If you WANT to go to the potty and not wear diapers anymore, here's the chair. It doesn't matter to me at all.

that type of attitude. ALso I have heard that letting a girl run round naked under a dress outside and have her chair ready and nearby will make a diff too.

I hesitate to give anyone PT advice. In my experience, you'll get loads of advice that is "sure to work" and none of it will until your child is good and ready. (both physically and emotionally). When the child is ready--ANYTHING will work.

Try not to stress even if you do it in secret. Kids are perceptive!

Go to 3daypottytraining.com. I love Lora's advice. I am going to try it after vacation in July. It is only $24 and money back garuntee. Cheaper than diapers. Please let me know how it goes if you order it and use it before me. I personally emailed her and asked what gaurantee do I have that it works. Money back and other moms comments.

Hmmm Have you tried talking to her about how "big girls" use the potty and don't use diapers & diapers are for babies, etc.? That may encourage her to want to be a big girl too.

Or if she likes Chuck E Cheese (& if you are ok with taking her! haha) They have a rewards calendar for potty training. You can get 10 free tokens if you bring in a calendar showing that she has used the potty for 2 weeks. The calendars are a free download from their Web site.

Or you can make your own calendar to work toward a different reward that fits your daughter better (get her a toy, a new outfit, take her to the movies or park, etc.)

And sometimes you have to take a break from pushing her. She may decide to do it on her own!

Good luck! I've just started trying to teach my daughter about the potty. She's 15 months old though, so I'm sure I'm in for some fun!
