Hi ladies,
Can any of you recommend a great potty training book to teach parents how to potty train. I have had a ton of suggestions from lots of moms and read articles but as this is my first time at this I would really like a step by step approach that I can try. I know my son is ready, but I don't know if I am!!! Thanks:)
J. B Just take your time with him and let go ,it takes lots of love to work with him but ,just be nice with him ,,and show him the way to go pot ,when he need too ! he will be fine and so will you !just don't hurry him ! it takes time ,but you will both get thourgth it fine !
I bought several books for potty training, and none really helped. What worked was simply putting my son on the potty every 20 minutes, and when he urinated in the potty, he received a reward. It was tedious, but he was potty-trained pretty quickly.
I LOVE Secrets of the Baby Whisperer by Traci Hogg. It's an excellent resource and covers everything from newborns thru toddlers and potty training.
The other thing that worked great for us when potty training... is to get them into the routine of going to sit on the potty every 20-30 minutes... I would set the timer. And then take them and have them sit on it - even if they didn't do something every time. It was more about getting them used to going to the bathroom. We also went out and had them pick out 'big boy underwear'. We let them pick out their favorite character underwear and then reinforced that they didn't want to get Thomas dirty! LOL :) It seemed to work really well - there will still be accidents here and there - but overall it worked well. Just be patient...
