I started potty training my 2 1/2 year old daughter on Thursday. We used the 3 day potty guide. She is wearing big girl undwear all day and night. She does very well at night and has not had any accidents in bed and the same for nap time. When she is up she has accidents all day long. Yesterday she told me she had to go potty at 9:30 a.m. she went in the potty and then did not pee all day until she wet herself at 5:00 p.m. She never went pee again not even this morning. She would hold herself jump around and wiggle. I tried putting her on the potty several time, but she just jumped off and said she was done. Then she began to cry the other times I put her on the potty. Finally at 9:30 a.m. she wet herself so she went 16 1/2 hours without going to the bathroom. She has gone in the potty about 6 times so there is some progress, but any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated. I hate to put her back in diapers since she has been in big girl panties for 4 days. Should I just let her keep wetting herself until she decides she wants to go to the potty??? Also I am using a reward system with stickers and candy when she does go is this a good idea or not? Thanks in advance moms you are always so helpful.

What can I do next?

seems like she is doing pretty good, and she is a girl so she will learn fast! My son does the same thing he hates to be on the potty. I think it helps to set them down every hour or so when you are just beginning so that you can catch it and they learn how to communicate with you.Whenever my son looks like he is ready to poop, i hurry him to the potty, therefore he knows where he has to go. treats are good and remember to make a BIG deal when she goes in the potty. I know it sounds bad but if i know my son has to go I will leave him sit on the potty for 10-15 minutes if i have to and he will end up going. They tell you they are all done cause they want to get back in their diaper, pull up so they can go the way they are used to. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!

Your daughter is showing you that she has urinary control based on the time that she can go without emptying her bladder-think of how uncomfortable she must be! I would use the reward system for sure-anything to help her WANT to use the potty. A friend used toys that could only be played with WHILE ON the potty-the kind that have water inside (there are many types) and there is usually a button that when pushed will make objects shoot toward their goal-a ring, a tube, etc. When she has gone 3 times in a row reward her with something special. Then make it 5 times in a row. Tell her why you are rewarding her. Special can be going out for an ice cream cone, going to the park, going to the store and buying a coloring book. When she gets to 3 days in row without ANY accidents buy her something-keep the price reasonable-a new doll, a Beanie Baby. Do not tell her about these rewards- just do them-that way if she has an "accident" she doesn't have a double failure-failure to do the job and failure to get the reward. Good luck!

Leave her in her panties! You have made good progress, so don't go back. She will get tired of the wetness and will eventually start going. I know it is hard, all the washing and cleaning up accidents, but keep going. The reward system is great! I put my son in his big boy bed and bought him a big boy bicycle. He gave up his binky and potty trained in a very short while, cause "Big boys don't use binkies and wet their pants." That's how we got him potty trained, he hates being referred to as little or a baby. :) He still has accidents at night, so you are blessed that she is showing such good control while she is sleeping. Keep going, it will happen!!

Stop the stickers and candy. Intriduce her to the toilet. Get her familiar with it. Sit on it. Let her flush it. Tell her that she is going to use the big girl toileta nd if she needs to go to the potty, to tell mommy and that you will go with her.

You tell her you are so proud of her and clap, and smile. That is what she wants. Not stickers and candy!

Hang in there. Putting her back in diapers (IMO) communicates to her that you don't have faith in her. Just keep praising her when she does a good job. Try have her sit no longer than 2 minutes at a time every couple of hours. Play the listening game - where you both sit in the potty real quietly listening for the splashing sound of the pee pee hitting the potty! then giggle and cheer like crazy. Don't get upset by the accidents, just deal with them matter-of-factly. Have her help you clean up - like say, "Uh-oh, our panties are wet from pee. Take them off and put them on the washer for mommy. Let's clean the floor together." then have her help clean up, put on new ones, and remind her that pees go in the potty. The hardest part is sticking to it and being consistent. It is hard too, when we're constantly cleaning up accidents, but try to stay as neutral and matter-of-fact as possible. You don't want to scared or nervous about you getting mad. Perhaps you could plan a "Potty" party for a few friends to celebrate her no longer wearing diapers and then ceremoniously throw out the old diapers (or at least make it look like you have). :)

Well my daughter just turned 3 two weeks ago and we tried everything to keep her in the big girl panties but nothing worked until she turned 3. Of course before she turned 3 she already knew how to use the big potty she just wouldn't. The day of her birthday we told her she was a big girl now and big girls wear panties and use the big potty and now we haven't had any accidents day or night. I think she just wanted to stay a baby as long as she could. I hope you can help your daughter do the same it makes things a whole lot easier when they want to use the potty.

Another quick idea would be to literally flush her with fluids. As much as she will drink so that she has to go more often. A friend says she saw that on Dr. Phil, and it worked for her. And let her have fun drinks too, like juice boxes etc. It is just to make her go potty often enough that you can reasonably have her sit at least every 2 hours. Keep up with the rewards, but maybe give her one m&m for every minute (or whatever your interval of time) that she stays sitting on the potty, so that she is rewarded for staying there and waiting until she has to go. I would not leave her for a super long time, but you get the idea. Good luck, you will be soo happy when it is over!! ~A.~
