Potty Training - Fort Stewart,GA

My 2 1/2 year old son is doing amazing at the whole potty training thing! We are so proud of him! He had been in diapers and did not seem to care much whether he was wet or not, but as soon as we put underwear on him he has been much more self aware of his body. I think we got him into underwear at the right time!

This past weekend, we only used underwear except at bedtime, and except for the first day, he has not we himself at all . . . not even overnight! We are not ready to put him in underwear overnight just yet, but for the future, how many dry nights would you wait before you switched to underwear?

My husband and I know that he is doing so great, but that there may be some relapses, but will not be going back to diapers. If your children did really well potty training, did they have any relapses? Started off great and then did a u-turn? Curious as to others' experiences.

The one big issue that we are having is poop :( He has only pooped in the toilet once, and it was because my husband noticed he was standing weird and they made it just in time. He did try to make it once on his own, but my husband was in the shower and forgot to put the potty outside the door. He is making progress because while in his diaper, he really did not care if he had a dirty diaper or not, and now will get upset if he poops in his underwear (even though we tell him that it is ok and accidents happen). Any suggestions on potty training with poop is greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

Have your DH actually take the potty & your son WITH him when HE is having a BM and while he is urinating. I had 4 daughters & then got 2gransons to raise @ age 48, this is what seemed to work the best for us. Hope this is something your DH is willing to try, boyz LOVE to emulate their male role models! Good Luck!

My two did not have relapses. But that depends on what you consider a relapse. My oldest (5 years) had an accident at daycare a few months ago. It was truly an accident though... she thought it was just gas but unfortunately she ate something that didn't agree so it was far more than gas. Poor thing.

Anyhow, that was once in over two years? Before that she did great however every once in a blue moon she would have an accident where she just got so distracted that she didn't realize that she had to go until it was too late. I don't consider the accidents a relapse. It's just a part of the learning and figuring things out.

For the night-time, I waited for her to go a month without an accident before we switched to panties. She had lots of accidents though during the night. My second LO rarely has accidents at night but I will probably do the same with her as it work out really well. I hate washing sheets =)

For the pooping, my first did not have trouble letting me know when she had to - but we started poop training when she was 9 months old. Her sister hates going poop and would hold it as long as she could. However, as with her sister we started her poop training early so she's never really pooped in a diaper. To get her to go regularly I ask her poop every other night if she doesn't ask herself and then she gets a treat of some sort. No poop accidents though so I don't know if that helps you. I think if you "train" them to go before they have to go, then that might help.

Good luck!

Going without a diaper at night is ok if you have a waterproof mattress or mattress cover. My first would have problems when he was very tired for months. 2nd one- 1 week he pee trained. 2 weeks poop trained. 3 weeks dry at night forever. Done. Depends on the child.

Rewards for poop training. Small thing for everyday like a sucker.. Something special for 1 week, 2 weeks till stable, like hot wheels.
