We've had a hard time potty training our 3 year old son. We've had several false starts and finally "outlawed" pull-ups and are starting to have some success with peeing in the potty. He even does well with it at school. However, pooping is another issue. I understand that it is fairly common for children to either continue to poop in their pants (or even to hide when they poop) long after they are doing well with peeing. We can let him sit on the potty forever (the record is 45 minutes) and as soon as he pulls up his pants, he poops in them. Any suggestions? We've tried encouragement, bribes, guilt, etc. to no avail. AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!

I am a single mom of two. My son did the same thing when he was that age and i did the same things u did. I finally gave up and someone told me let him sit n it for a while and he will stop it (I know it sounds nasty but it really worked with me)Just take time and see what happens. I promise he will out grow it soon.
Hi M., I had a similar problem with my 2 almost 3 year old. He has been completely potty trained except at night and a rare occasion of not making it to the potty. We started by finding something he really liked and/or wanted. He liked playing with my husbands change he keeps in a basket. He also liked putting the coins in his piggy bank that plays music. so we put the two together and everytime he would go stinky on the potty, he would get a quarter to put in piggy bank. That worked wonders. Lots better than candy!! I hope you find something that works.

We used money with our son! Everytime he would pee in the potty he would get a penny - and everytime he would poopoo in the potty he would get $1.00!!! He was so excited to fill up his piggy bank he couldn't wait to potty! It did take him a little while to poopoo - I think it is scarry for them to sit down. Do you have a removable seat that goes on the big potty? That worked pretty well - you can get one @ Bed Bath & Beyond and I think I only paid @ $15.00 for it. My son still uses it.

I used to work at a daycare and i have 2 kids of my own although i didn't have any problem with my daughter my son is a different story i had a hard time getting him to use the potty. he would do it for a few days and then just stop. at the preschool i use to work at the kids in there everything the used the potty we would give them a special treat but only if they would go poop or pee on the potty so i thought i would try it with my son also. and it worked only took me 2 days and he was using the potty no accentdents. I just bought some special candy for him and the only way he would get it if he did go on the potty, I didn't go anywhere for those 2 days i stay home all weekend and put him in underwear not diapers or pull up they dont like the feeling i dont think when they poop or pee on themselfs. I really hope this helps let me know.
I think everyone gave u great advice and believe it or not he won't poop on himself forever so know that this is just a milestone. My advice is to put him in real underware like I did my 3 yr old. He hated to feel it vs/ not being able to in the diaper. Also he may have some fear of doing the other on the potty. When my son started potty training he would hold his poop for days and I eventually had to go to his doctor and have him precribed an enema so he would have to go, then I would sit him on the potty and wait.But try the real underware, it's worked for me and several other people I know.
I had a friend of mine's 4 year old talk to my almost 3 year old about going to the potty. Besides being very cute it worked. My daughter looked up to the older girl and really listened to what she was saying about the potty and when to go and I haven't even had an accident for the last 3 months. Good luck.
I feel for you. My son was 3 years and 3 months before we had 100% success. Same story as you. Makes you want to pull your hair out! Mine liked to squat behind the couch and would beg me to put training pants on him so he could "pooh"!! We didn't do anything special. One day he just went on the potty. Truly one of the happiest days of my life. Just keep in mind that boys are slow and that for sure he'll be potty trained by pre-K!! My son now is the fastest potty pooper ever. :-)
