My 3 year old son was nearly potty trained and then my father passed away. Ever since his potty training has been up and down. The biggest issue is pooping. He says poop and pooping is discusting. Any ideas on how to get him over this hurdle?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

My son really wanted to start wearing underware to bed. He hasn't had an accident at night, but we kept having him wear pullups to bed just in case. We used his desire to wear underware all the time to our advantange. We told him that if he had no accidents for two weeks that he could wear underware all the time, even to bed. I truly believe T is now completely potty trained!!! Yippy!!!! He's been three weeks accident free. Well except for the one night that he was super tired and peed the bed... but I think he woke up laying in the same position he feel asleep in. Thank you all for your suggestions.

I recently posted a similar question on her and 90% of the responses said my child was not ready. I didn't believe it and I'm sure you don't either. I would just let my child run around the house naked so she didn't have a security blanket to go in. Yes, she did poop on my floor and I was horrified, but she only did it once. She was responsible for the mess she made and had to clean it (I cleaned it all up and then just made her "scrub" where it was as if she was cleaning it). I also kept a very close eye on her during her "normal" time she pooped. She got to the point when I would put diapers on for a nap she would poop in them then. She does use the toliet now and we make a game out of watching the poop go down, similar to you. Good luck with it and I'm sorry to hear about your father.

Time...

He will get it.
Go to the library and get some books about poop.
One that I know about is called "Everybody poops".
Make comments about how its not so yucky when its in the potty...

I'm sorry about your father. I to experienced something similar with my son. "Boys are so hard to train, even as adults lol". My son would not poop on the toilet for about two months after being peepee trained. I just kept telling him every time he went in his pants eeeeeeeewwwwwww oh this would be so much easier and less stinky if you went in the potty and left it at that. Then when my husband and I would go and we would loudly say as we were flushing bye icky poopoo. He would come running in and say eew gross bye poopoo. I think eventually he realized it was easier to go on the potty and has ben going ever since.

I agree that getting the book might help. I remember having a conversation with my daughter about how everyone poops. Mommy, Daddy, Gramma, Santa Claus, etc. I also used bribery, or 'positive reenforcement' sounds better, I guess. :) M&M's were my best friend when it came to potty training. She got 5 if she pooped in the potty, none for pooping in her underwear or in a diaper. I also stopped letting her wear a diaper for naptime, because it's like she would wait until naptime to poop in the diaper.
Good Luck! I know how frustrating it can be, but he'll be using the potty all the time before you know it!
(Sorry about your father!)

There's a book to try and it states the fact in the title. Everybody Poops. It may sound crazy but some kids don't get that. Some are so uncomfortable with the idea they hold it for days until they make themselves constipated. But the book does help.
