Possibly Relocating to Charlotte, NC

My husband and I are now currently contemplating a transfer to the Charlotte, NC area. He has lived out that way before (quite a few years ago) and is really excited about the possible opportunity. We are starting to look at homes just to get an idea of what is out there and what we are looking for. Can anybody who already lives out there help me out? What areas are good with good schools (our son isn't even 1 yet but if we stay there schools will be a concern in a few years)? Any specific neighborhoods that are good? Kid friendly?? Any areas better than others?? Just trying to get an idea of where we want to look ... and possibly where we wouldn't want to look. We would be on a limited budget (no more than $140,000-$150,000) so some areas I know are definitely out of the question. :-)

Thanks!
H.

Added:

My husband works retail and there are 15 of his stores in the Charlotte area. We have no way of knowing once we put in for the transfer what store will have an opening first. But he is willing to travel to work up to an hour. Preferably less but an hour of travel if he needs to.

What can I do next?

We moved from Charlotte to TX a long time ago. We loved that area and we would certainly go back.

Although we've not been back in years, we lived in Matthews just off Providence Road at Raintree Golf Course. This was before we had daughter and we had a great condo overlooking the golfcourse in Muirfield.

I have not idea what the place is like now but we have special memories of NC.

Just a thought - maybe you could rent for a year or two so that you get a feel for the area and have more time to hone in on a great buy.

That's what we did when we moved to FL.

Good luck!
