I love them! They are very easy to use. Yes, you can put the water in first then add the formula and just shake it up. I bought generic drop ins and they work fine.
Anyone out there use playtex drop ins? How do you feel about them? I am considering trying them for baby #2 thinking that it will be less cleaning of bottles (hubby is not much help!). I will likely use a few different brands of bottles (like dr browns and avent in past.) If you have used them, can you mix the formula and water in the pouch itself or do you have to premix the formula then put it in the pouch? Just curious, thanks!

LOVED THEM!
But, we based everything on the kids and what their preferences for bottles were. Both of our kids took well to the Platex Drop ins.
Burlington Coat Factory often carries the drop ins at a much lower price than you'll find elsewhere. We also started using the Target brand because the cost was so much lower and had no problems.
Good luck!
Personally, I hated them.
I used these for both of my daughters, and they were 8 years apart! Loved them - we would just put in the powder & water, tighten the ring/nipple, pop on the cap, and shake to mix. Only caveat is that that method adds air bubbles, so we would then take the cap off, squeeze the bag from bottom to get out excess air & put the cap back on. Problem solved!

Both my girls loved the Playtex drop-ins. We put them through the dishwasher, since the only part really needing to be sterilized are the nipples. The othside bottles never touch the formula/milk. You will find that it isn't 100% accurate on teh measurements, but like a lot of people have mentioned it isn't enough that we did mixing in another container.
Good luck!

I used the Playtex Drop Ins and I loved them. You can add the water and the formula and mix it in the bottle. They are awesome, I used the Walmart's Parent Choice Liners, better price than the Playtex Drops Ins Liners. They actually helped my baby girl with colic's. I am thinking about baby #2, and will use the Playtex. They are less cleaning and easy to carry around.
Drop-ins are great. I loved them for the children. They are easy, convenient and just nice.
We loved them. To be more specific, my daughter loved them. They were the only bottle she would take because they were one of two bottles you can get with latex nipples. We bought extra nipples, so the bottles really didn't have to be cleaned as much - he would just switch the nipple, so when I worked all day, he didn't have to worry about cleaning the bottles that day. We only bought 4 bottles total (but I only work part time).
i use them with my 2 month old son and he like it. bjs sells the drop in (the bj kinds 100 count 2 boxes for 10$
I loved the drop ins and I did mix it in the bottle. I also was able to use the Target inserts in the Playtex bottles up until she took 8 ounces. The Target claim to hold 8 ounces, but if you did that you would have to premix the formula instead of mixing it in the bottle. The Playtex inserts go up to 10 ounces so there isn't a big problem there. From time to time I did notice a discrepancy in size, but for me it wasn't too significant where I premixed my formula. You could drop the bottle into hot water to warm it up, but that takes forever. If you need to warm up the bottle, I would always warm up the water and then add to bottle and mix formula that way.
Here's the thing about the Drop-ins.....you are still going to have to wash the bottle you put the drop ins in. So as far as less cleaning...not so much. HOWEVER, the drop-in ARE nice because you can first push alot of the air out of the bottle and then they collapse and help with eliminating some of the air that gets into baby's belly, so it can help with gas and burps and colic.
As far as mixing the formula in them, I have been known to do that but I always had a problem with clumps sticking to the sides and if I shook hard enough to eliminate the clumps, the formula was too bubbly and airated so, again, gas and tummy issues. I always just used a plastic shaker and made enough for the day (maybe a little less, so it wouldn't get wasted) and kept it in the fridge mixed up so I could just warm (put it in the drop-in, in the bottle, in a cup of warm water) what I needed and feed. Easy-peesy.
I love the drop ins! I normally used the Parents Choice brand from WalMart because of price, but the drop ins themselves are great. I also just mixed formula in the bottles.
I do love the drop-in concept, but just an FYI...the Playtex brand sometimes have size discrepencies. My BIL discovered that the ounce markings are not always accurate, as measured against their Medela breastpump collection bottles. They found it occurred a few times and contacted Playtex to inform them of the discrepancies. I always made sure to measure my water in a separate container first, before putting it into the drop-in.
I also bought the generic version from Target and like them, except for older babies who can drink more. The Target brand only goes up to 8 oz, but Playtex is expandable to 10 oz, which allows for better mixing of larger bottles.
I liked them too and used for formula and breastmilk. They were convenient because you don't have to wash the bottle every time--just the nipple and top ring. Also, they can be recycled if you just rinse the bag first, which made me feel better about the plastic waste. Also they do not have BPA in them and my daughter liked them. I agree about mixing the formula first, if you can. Just less messy and bubbly than mixing in the bag. I had the drop-ins collapse on me a couple times when trying to mix in a sleepy haze and that made it less worth saving the extra mixing container.
They are quite the convenience. You can mix the formula in the bottle and what is really nice is putting a liner in the bottle and putting the formula in ahead of time so then when it is time to feed baby, all you have to do is add warm water put the nipple on and shake it up, the bottle if ready, only have to clean the nipple, toss the mine and squeeze the line before giving to baby to get rid of excess air. Many advantages, only disadvantage is continual expense of lines, but I love using them, also great for travel.
