So, yesterday my 6 year old woke up with pink eye. I know what it is. I've had it myself more times than I can count in my life. So, I started doing the honey and water drops. I'm very into homeopathic remidies instead of using antibiotics, unless its really needed. So, this morning it was in both eyes. I decided to go ahead and try to have her seen by the dr. because I don't want her to have to miss more school than what's really needed, so if I could get her on the antibiotic drops today then she could still go to school tomorrow. But, I just called the walk in urgent care close by and it's almost a 2 hour wait time! My husband is at work, otherwise, I would just take her and wait it out. But, I have my 4 year old son who does not like to sit still for too long. I don't want to have to be sitting there half the day having to tell him to sit down, and keep him patient while waiting. So, I'm thinking about just keep doing the honey drops for her and if I have to I'll just have to keep her home tomorrow and take her to her ped. tomorrow if it doesn't look any better. What do you think I should do? Wait it out or just deal with 2 very hyper kids in the waiting room for 2 + hours?
Thank you all! I went to whole foods and got some pink eye stuff there and also some chamomile (sp?) tea and had her lay down with the warm bags over her eyes. She didn't like doing it because she wanted to play lol, but she said she did feel a little better though :) She is still sleeping right now, but I am going to keep her home today anyway so she can get better.
Bad news for me though is that I woke up with swollen tonsils and white bumps on them. I think I might be making a trip to the dr. today :(
honey has actually worked great in the past and has cleared it up with in a couple days. You only need antibiotics if it's a bacterial infection. Pink eye can also be viral, and antibiotics will do nothing for it. The honey is very soothing too. If you look up home remidies for pink eye, honey is one of them. Also my mom is certified in homeopathy. Honey is also a natural antibiotic

Pink eye is highly contagious from person to person, call the urgent care and make sure they know she more than likely has pink eye, they may want you to wait until tomorrow to see your pediatrician rather than risk infecting a roomful of people. If they say to come in anyway go, regardless of your kids being hyper, they're old enough to understand why they need to sit and play quietly.
Don't let your daughter touch things not her own or share food or toys or get face to face with anyone until she is no longer contagious, the doctor will tell you when that will be. Have everyone wash their hands often, separate her sheets and towels for laundering. (Have experience dealing with pinkeye and read this in Parent's magazine this morning. It's the Nov 2011 issue and I tried to find a link online for you but it isn't up yet.)
Also, IF the pinkeye she has is caused by a virus she'll need to stay home until her eyes clear up as there's no treatment, if it's caused by bacteria she can use the antibiotic drops and can go back to school after she's been using them 24 hours or more, not the same day. ~ Just read your update, SOME honey is a natural antibiotic, not all. Dad's home health nurse told use recently about one of her other patients made their MRSA worse because they were too cheap to purchase the honey made by bees raised exclusively on melaluca (tea tree) and used regular honey. Ended up in the hospital fighting for their life, the bacteria just fed off the sugars in the honey and multiplied the infection...

You can take care of pink eye with Johnson's Baby Shampoo. It has to be regular Johnson's and other brands don't work. You simply put a kittke shampoo in a clean sink of warm water and wring out a clean wash cloth in the shampoo solution and wipe out the infected eye. Repeat a few times a day and it cures pink eye.
Polysporin now makes pink eye drops
You could go to the pharmacy and pick some of that up instead

Definitely get the anti-biotic eye drops ASAP- pink eye is painful and very contagious. It would be awful if your son got it next, then you or your husband. Call the pediatrician right away- ours offers same day appointments. Also call the optometrist- mine has seen me the same day for pink-eye before. There's also the CVS one-minute clinics with pretty short wait times if they have those where you live. If she wipes her eyes with a towel that's shared, or even touches her eyes and then someone else gets those germs then the whole house will be miserable!

Boric Acid (don't let the name scare you) it's also in contact lense solution.. I have used it several times and it worked really well... that along with a warm compress to get rid of the junk in the eye. Additionally, be sure and change the pillow case nightly .. doing these things helped cleared up my pink eye somewhat quick..

I use colloidal silver for pink eye. It is a natural antibiotic. I put it on a cotton ball and rub it over the infected eye. It takes away the sting, and heals the eye. It has always worked for us.
We've used OTC Similison with great results.
New info: Just read that Strep -- which you said you think you developed in the throat after your child developed pink eye, can be the cause of a Strep based (bacterial) pink eye.
If that's what your child has (which seems quite likely)-- she should definitely see the doctor who will no doubt put her on antibiotics.
