Pillow for a 5 YO

I need to get new pillows for my 5 YO. Right now, she has an old one of mine that had gotten pretty flat - which is why it works for her. I looked in one store, and everything was "extra plush" and looked so thick that it would bend her neck. She's too big for baby pillows. What should I look for/where do I find a good pillow for a 5 YO? (She is having allergy trouble so I'm getting rid of my hand me downs after someone suggested that could be causing some of her trouble.) Thanks!!

What can I do next?

They have these blue striped pillows at WalMart for around 4 dollars that go flat really quick. My husband prefers these, and I buy them for my children as well. My two year old sleeps on one, so they're definitely not too big!

If she fonds that pillow comfy, just wash it in hot water, dry it on high, fluff it up a but and put it in an allergen casing. You can buy them online or at Bed, Bath & Beyond. If she has allergies, you should also be using an allergen cover on her mattress and box spring and washing her linens once a week in hot and her comforter more often, too. Google an allergy website. No carpet, stuffed animals in the room either. We spend 1/3 of our day in our room. It should be as allergy proof as possible. Also, no pets in the room (preferably in the house). Get her tested as well. I suffered as a kid and was miserable - if only mom mom did the things above!!

My so loves the pillow pet he has - the ones that fold up into an animal. It's super soft, easy to wash, not to thick, and cute.

He has the bee, but there are lots of others to pick from. They sell some at Target.

I like the children's pillow at bed, bath and beyond. it's a good size and allergen-free. My son has been using it since he turned three and we're still really happy with it.

There are websites that sell hypo-allergenic pillows specifically for children. You may also want to consider getting a cover for the pillow if you decide against that and get one at the store.

A few sites I found (that I have not tried, but it's worth looking at):

One stepahead seems to have tons of good reviews.

IKEA has the best kid pillows... totally flat and totally cheap (like $3). They actually have a huge selection of pillows in all size ranges and with different stuffings. You can purchase a hypo-allergenic cover for her pillow there too (at a fraction of the cost of what you'd pay for it elsewhere). Worth the trip.

We use the 4.99 pillows at Target. They flatten really nicely and really quickly. This way if we have a sick accident or something I can just toss it and get them a new one.

You can use one of your old ones by putting an anti allergen cover over it.

There are a few small cervical pillows, you can check with a chiropractor, look online or a specialty store. The one here is called "The Back Store". A simple idea that worked for us was to use a travel pillow for our daughter at that age. You could get a regular pillow and take some (a lot) of the stuffing out. Basically your instinct that a regular pillow isn't going to be the best for your child as is, is correct and could cause some neck problems.

Walmart has tons of pillows starting around $4. They are really flat and most of them go flat as soon as you lay your head on them. Our kids all have the $4-$6 ones from there. They may look fluffy but they're not.

I have a MyPillow and absolutely love it. They have a child's size that may be more expensive than you are interested in paying, but they're really good, they're hypoallergenic, they can be washed over and over and over.

Check them out (just google mypillow) - the childrens size is not CRAZY expensive - in fact, I'd like to get one to use between my knees at night (I'm a side sleeper with hip and back issues...).

Try a memory foam pillow - they are pretty flat but supportive.
