You didn't mention a thing about what kind of frame you want to do......sports, trucks, etc. Just buy a plain frame and then go to Hobby Lobby or the craft dept at Wal-Mart. Pick out those foam pieces in the sizes and shapes that he'd like to put on the frame. Glue them on. You can get as simple or creative as you/he wants.

Hi M.,
Have you got any puzzles that are missing pieces? use heavy poster board or even card stock. cut out the size frame you want. Glue the puzzle pieces around the edges and then let dry. you can leave it like that or paint to suit your taste.Mount that on a full sheet of card stock cut to size, leaving enough room to slide the picture in.

I like to pick up wooden frames at garage sales and we paint them with acrylic paints. They kids have a ball and it is very inexpensive.

There are several really simple picture frames they can make. 1. Craft sticks, like popsycle type they can use markers or paints on to color glued together. 2. That wonderful foam type that can be glued to pieces of heavy cardboard. Either type can adapt easily with magnets attached to the back to be used on refrigs etc., if desired or can have a hang up hook or stand attached. 3. We have Dollar Trees and Michael's in our area. They have inexpensive wooden frames that can be purchased and painted and decorated many ways as well. I have gotten frames for $1.00 ea and let them decorate with buttons, beads, glitter, etc.

get a frame without too many bumps or curves in the design. The simpler the better - even boxy flat cheap boring frame. Then use Modge Podge or white glue & water. Brush that on frame, not too heavy just coverage. Then apply torn pictures from magazines, etc. Finger or brush again to cover the new pictures. Instant decoupage! You can add "embellishments" from the scrapbook crafts aisle in the store - bugs, butterflies, fish, whatever you need to make a story with the pics from that frame.

Have fun!

You can make some really cute photo frames out of craft foam.
It comes in so many colors and you can get precut shapes and/or letters to decorate them.
It is fun to make small frames for the refrigerator and put magnetic tape on the back.
Check your local craft/hobby store for ideas or kits.

My daughter made the cutest picture frame in school this year. It's basically a cardboard frame with junk glued all over it. By junk, I mean screws, legos, pasta, paper clips, a barbie shoe, bottle caps, anything you have laying around the house. After the glue has dried, spray paint the frame. She used silver. It sounds weird, but is the coolest thing when completed.

Good Luck and have fun.

Take a walk outside and let the boys pick up little things (they do anyway!) and have them glue it to some stock paper. Outline the area they have to not glue and let it be homemade art!

We made a frame for Dad too...my daughter painted a plain wood frame with black acrylic, next we searched my husbands tools and found a mini wrench (2-3 inches), some washers and bolts then glued them all over. It looks really cool. My husband is the fix-it guy around the house so it all comes together nicely.

Hi, M.,

I recommend staying away from the foam ones -- they always come apart. Glue never sticks to them for long. Go with a pre-made wood one that he can paint and decorate.

Or just use the craft sticks. That's the only frame craft I still have - my son made it when he was three (he's 10 now) and it is still hanging on my fridge with a picture of the whole family in it. I had all the kiddos (I ran a home daycare and the theme that week was family) paint four craft sticks any way they wanted. We let them dry, then glued them together in a square, and taped a photo to it (from behind, of course!) then put a magnet on it and voila! They really came out cute.

Have fun, with whatever you go with! J.

I teach Preschool and you can use cardstock or they also make foamies already in the shape of a picture frame. They are cute for pictures of your children or any other picture design. We have also bought the frames that are wooden at Walmart and you can use scrapbooking stickers or foamies, glitter glue etc. Have fun decorating any frame. Michael's has nice things also.

Best wishes,
J. R.
