I am interested in Piano, dance, ice skating & gymnastic lessons for my two year old twins. I am not sure when to start lessons for Piano and don't know where to look for a good teacher that has experience at teaching young children. Any advice from other moms in regards to your experiences on any or all of the above lessons? Ages you started, what worked, what didn't?

What can I do next?

I'm not sure what age piano is good to start, but dance and gymnastics, age 3 would be good. Ice skating would be 3 or 4. My daughter took all those things, and ice skating is a little frustrating if they are so young. They even have dance and gymnastics for two year olds. One warning though - only plan one or two activities at any given time - too many activities and they will get burned out, especially once they start school. Kids need down time. To find good activities in your area, look in the San Diego Family magazine, and look online. There's a place called My Gym for little ones, and also JW Tumbles, and for dance, google San Diego Civic Dance Arts, and there are places all over San Diego where they can start a group dance class for a reasonable price.

I think most piano teachers don't start formal lessons until 5-7 years old. I had one of my son's enrolled in Kindermusik at age 3 (they have classes starting at newborn). There is one located in La Mesa. I would start here. It's a fun way to get music exposure. I think they begin piano classes at age 6, but provide music classes before that time. My son started taking P. piano lessons at 5 and still takes lessons, he's now 11. For dance, try the rec centers (El Cajon, La Mesa, San Diego), they often offer dance and gymnastics. I agree with the other response, don't enroll them in too many activities at once, they can get burned out early. Another place to find classes (mostly "Mommy and Me" type) is through Grossmont High School District Adult Education: www. guhsd.net/adult. Classes are inexpensive and are fun place to meet other moms and kids.

Piano: try Kindermusic (spelled Kindermusik?) I think they have a website and are available all over.
Gymnastics/dance: Cameron Family YMCA in Santee, toddler tumbling classes, not sure about the age for dance.
Ice skating: Joan Kroc Center has mommy & me skating sessions...not sure about the age.
Dance/music/rhythm: Gymboree (think the closest one that still does thes is in Mission Valley)
