I have a 7 year old who is showing interest in music. I want to know if it is the right age for him to get started on learning how to play music. If it is I do want to start him off on learning Piano. Will appreciate if anyone can suggest a teacher or music school with good Piano lessons closer to where I live on Coit and McDermott in Plano.I am working full time ,have a 2 year old and do not want to spend too much time in commuting to the class.

My daughter started summer last year.
She loves it and loves her teacher - sweet Mrs Darlene Pritzkau (Parker and Custer)
Most teachers dont take kids that young, but Mrs Pritzkau has been teaching for more than 30 years and has taught the young (18 months) and the old and her prices are VERY reasonable.

I have been a piano teacher for many years. The right age to start a child in piano lessons is when that child shows interest, even if he is 3. I teach ages 3-adult. All learn at a different rate and the main idea is to enjoy it. Young children need support and the help of Mom and Dad. As far as a teacher, call your local music store and ask for a list. Also, check if you have Music for Young Children in your area. I teach both private and group lesson and it depends upon the child what works best.

You can always check RMTA.org. Thats the Richardson Music Teachers Association but they have teachers all over. You can enter your zip and find one nearest you. 7 is a perfect age to start a child in lessons.

Hi R.! I started taking at age 6 and that was a great age. I was learning to read music at the same time I was learning to read a book! I will say--My daughter is 3 1/2 and I won't put her in music (piano) until she is at least 5 or 6. SO---7 is perfect! I still play the piano and as many times as my mom and I fought about me not wanting to practice--I am so glad she she made me stay with it. Playing the piano is the biggest stress reliever I have now! I really hope it works out for your son! Good Luck!

I understand finding a good and patient piano teacher is extremely important. My wife and I have several friends of the family that work with a company whose goal is to match piano students with piano teachers. They work with students of all ages and come to your home.

Kinderbach is a great way to teach your child to play piano thru fun keyboarding activities. You can do this at home with a video they will beg you to let them use. Doing "homework" will be a treat.

I teach the classroom Kinderbach in Amarillo but we are just starting the actual pilot classes, the "home-school" has been around longer.

I would be happy to assist you - just let me know. The corporate site is http://www.kinderbach.com

I don't know who to take from, but I taught piano about 10 years ago, and if a student can read, it's a good time to start taking lessons. To find a teacher, call a local music store. Also, the City of Plano may have lessons available close to you.

I am a piano teacher with two degrees in music, and I started lessons when I was 7! There are good methods now to start children even younger, but 7 is great, if you find a teacher who enjoys working with that age. I can't help you with that, since you didn't say what city you're in. The only Coit I know about is in Richardson, and I'm in Arlington, so I only know of the other teachers in Arlington. You should be able to find a good teacher online. Here is the website for the Richardson Music Teachers Association: http://www.richardsonmta.org/

If you're not in Richardson, there should be such an association for the town you are in.
