I am currently looking to get pictures taken for my 2 year olds birthday and my newborn. I am looking for a place that is kid friendly - where we won't feel rushed and where I will be able to change their outfits. In addition to this, I would like to get a family photo done of the 4 of us. Anyone have any suggestions?
Certainly go to Portrait Innovations. They are off of Hall Road, on the Lakeside Mall circle. It's worth the drive in the crazy Hall Road traffic. They are designed for kids, do a great job, and accomodate any outfit changes, etc. They do a wonderful job with my twin niece and nephew.
Any earlier post mentioned heatherlynphotography.com and I have to agree - she is excellent. She works out of her home in the 23 mile and Heydenreich area. She will also come to you or do outside photos at the park at 24 and Van Dyke. Check out her website. Awesome. She took pictures of my son when he was 9 days old. We used her pictures for our son's birth announcement. We have also had pictures taken when he was about 8 months old. She is VERY CREATIVE!!
If you want a less expensive photo session and just the basics I have used My Photographer at Lakeside. The only photographer I have used there since 2002 is Rachel. I highly recommend her as well. Make appointments early like 10am -10:30 middle of the week. I also purchase the proof sheet for I think $10 at the end of my session. I then go home and make my decisions of what to buy. You can also go home and view your session online. They are ok with this if you go back and order within the week. This is so stress free for me. After all, once the pictures are taken the kids are usually not willing to sit quietly while I decide.

After trying Jc Penny, Sears and My photographer...I have found to like Kiddie Kandids the best inside Babies R us. They allow outfit changes and have really nice backgrounds.
Portrait Innovations right by Lakeside Mall is great. I have used them a few times and they do a great job. They encourage changing outfits and you get lots of pics to choose from. You also get the pictures the same day and the photographer uses a hand held camera which I think allows them to get the shot better. Best of luck

I agree with an earlier post that Portrait Innovations is great. I've used them 3 times. The fewest number of picture choices I received was 53(once was 98)! They take so many great shots it's hard to decide. I LOVE that you take the pictures home with you that day. I think they are very reasonable. They are open on Sundays too, so that's convenient if you work during the week. I've referred several friends and they have all loved it.

I have a photographer that comes to you and sets up a studio in your home, does outdoor photos, and also has a studio in her home in Troy. She is wonderful with kids and does beautiful work. My Photographer at Lakeside Mall is sometimes frustrating but you get good pictures and can change clothes. Starting soon they will also be doing outdoor pictures-- we had a really nice family picture done by them outside.
I took my son for his 3 month pictures to portrait innovations in lakeside circle. They were very patient and good with him. I did take a change of clothes and they did some diaper poses as well. I had many referrals to them as well from co-workers and friends. You also go through all of the pictures that day and take what you home with you. I was VERY happy with them. Hope this helps.

Have you ever thought of hiring a photographer that will bring the shoot to you? Children are usually much more comfortable in their own home, even if there are lights and backgrounds hung. If you can't afford her... you can get cheaper ones done by a friend of mine that's just starting.. she's a little less professional, but I liked the pictures I got from her.
KMAPhotography.com - they are a couple working out of their home (at 21 Mile and Heidenreich) and take the best pictures (by far)! Very relaxing and stress-free! They have toys for the kids to play with so they don't get bored and will do just about ANYTHING you want. Very professional! We used to go to Fox, but switched to them 4 years ago and couldn't be happier!
I will agree that Portrait Innovations is the BOMB!! (good bomb :) ) Affordable if you can contain yourself from buying to much!!
Also, this is JMOP, but I went to all the web-sites mentioned here and out of all of them I like Heather Lynn Photography, maybe not the prices so much, but for a very special occassion... I've never used her, but I have book marked her web-page now.
