Personal Question - Shaving

I am looking for a product (cream, hand razor, electric shaver or home remedy) that can eliminate itching. Lately everytime I shave (my pubic area) using a hand razor I itch for about 5 days constantly. I use the Venus hand razor, I normally use a very hot towel to prevent bumping which seems to help with that but not the itching. I have never used an electric shaver, does anyone have these problems with the electric ones? Any suggestions?

I use the disposable Shick Extreme (lavendar trim on white razor). It sounds like you have a lot more prep than I do, which is good.

I've found that I get a better shave if I do it every other day. I will use a cotton ball with alcohol sometimes afterwards and/or a touch of cortaid. I have not had issues with itching and bumping but I have been doing this for years. Maybe my skin is accustomed to it. I use the same aloe Colgate shaving creme that my hubby uses.

Good luck!

Hey E., I used to have the same problem, until I switched shaving products. I know use Alloy and/or Body Satin and it works great. There are also no harmful chemicals or toxins in them. I also put on some ReNew Lotion afterwards and no itch or rash.

Good luck!

after shaving I put the gel baby oil with lavendar on the area I shaved and it helps bumbs and keeps me from itching.

Here's an old trick, but a goody! After shaving with a razor, lightly apply a powder based deodorant to the area. Works GREAT!

Bikini Zone works well. It has lidocaine in it so it numbs the skin a bit.

I used it for the first couple of years of shaving (using a good razor).

Now I don't get them as often...

I've never used an electric razor...and I'm not sure it would get as "close" as a razor would.

I itch really badly too after I've shaved with a razor, and I've come to realize that I'm itching because I've given myself such a close shave that the hairs have become ingrown. I have an electric razor from Remington that gives me better results that a manual razor, and it helps to eliminate most of the itching because it's not cutting the hair below the skin surface. It's called the Remington Trim/Shave, it's cordless, and it comes with a lot of different attachments for everything from just trimming up to shaving it all off. It works best for me using it dry with a little baby powder, but it can be used wet, too.

The other thing I've used is an acne gel from Neutrogena, believe it or not. It opens up those hair follicles and stops the hairs from becoming ingrown and itching. Sounds weird, I know, but it works wonders!

Hope this helped.

Witch hazel is great for after shaving. It is a natural astrigent, and I haven't had any problems since I started using it.
