Welcome to perimenopause! The same exact thing happened to me at 39. My midwife (whom I see for annual exams) told me it was perfectly normal and required no intervention. It's just ... annoying!

I do think you should check with your doctor, just to rule things out, though. This is not a decade in life in which women can afford to skip an annual exam. But it sounds like a normal, inevitable shift, and right on schedule.

There can be several reasons for this change. I suggest you make an appointment with your doctor. You are of an age where your hormones could be changing in preparation for menopause. I think it's call peri-menopause now. My periods became more irregular (they'd always been somewhat irregular) and it was because of endometriosis. But I had pain along with it.

Why did the doctor give you progesterone? Are you still taking it? If so, you definitely need to see your doctor.

Go back to the doctor. Only they can tell you if this is normal for you or not. Good luck

You could be starting up with peri-menopause by 39.
Some women start it sooner than others.
Periods get less regular and predictable the older you get.
A short period every once in awhile is not a problem.
And by short I mean like 14 days.
25 days is still within a normal range.

But if it becomes a regular thing it might be a symptom of something else.
I have a friend who in her mid 40's had a period that came sooner and bled longer until it was almost continuous.
She became anemic from losing so much blood.
It turns out it was an early symptom of breast cancer.
She had a lumpectomy, went through radiation/chemo and was on medication to force a chemical menopause (her type of cancer really fed off of hormones - so they suppressed them for 5 years).
She's fine and cancer free for many years now.

This started with me about 4 years ago when I was 36. I went from a period every 4 weeks to every 3. Then one time it was just two weeks. My PMS was worse and my period was heavier with substantial clotting. Some periods I was afraid to leave the house for the first day or two for fear of an embarassing accident.

I went to my GYN and she order an endometrial biopsy and bloodwork to rule out any kind of cancer. Then I had an ultrasound to rule out other types of cysts or endometriosis. All came back good, so she recommended an endometrial ablation. It basically scars the lining of your uterus to prevent or decrees subsequent periods. It's day surgery and leaves your ovaries intact so you don't need hormone replacement therapy.

I had this magic procedure on Dec. 4 of last year and haven't had a period since. Life is good.

It isn't a form of birth control so it is possible to still get pregnant. That can be lethal. So, if you want to have children or don't want to use another form of birth control this isn't the thing for you. However, if those aren't issues, it's worth talking to your Dr. about.

Are you on any form of contraception? I would start w another visit to the doctor. A change doesn't always mean something bad, but I don't think we have enough info to tell you if something is wrong. Good luck.

My period was doing that before I got pregnant last year. It would go back and forth between 25 days and 34 days, after decades of a consistent 28 day cycle. And man did I have terrible grumps when I would ovulate!
