How do you know your daughter is too big? No one can know that for sure until you are in labor and without a series of x-rays to determine the shape of your pelvis. If your doctor told you your baby is too big on ultrasound and you need to have a c-section they are feeding you a load of BS. Also, pelvic pressure and lower back pain and being tired are all common symptoms of late pregnancy.

How far along are you?

When I was in labor I remember calling the delivery department alot, but they didn't let me go in until my water broke. If its unbearable, call. If you've still got a while to go your doc may need to put you on bed rest or monitoring.

How close are you to your due date? If you are worried or very uncomfortable then I would call the nurse. She can at least give you some tips to ease your discomfort, or let you know if you need to be seen. Sounds like you're in the home stretch, maybe early labor... Better call to be on the safe side. Good luck!

Use the Ask a Nurse line anytime you have a question about health. If she does not know she will ask a doctor and then get back to you.
What is too big? If you have had a couple of children you can deliver a 10 lb baby.
I'd get a second opinion on that.

The real key to this question is timing. This back pain could easily be contractions. If it comes and goes, you can time when it will come, and you can time this for a while, then you are probably having contractions. Pelvic pressure and low back ache are common in late pregnancy. However, because you are planning a c-section it would be best to alert your care provider if you are having regular contractions. It sounds like you might be close to your due date, so if this pain is coming and going at regular intervals it is time to call your provider.

PS. as much as I professionally object to diagnosing CPD (cephalopevlic disproportion) prior to the onset of labor in an otherwise healthy pregnancy, it would be unkind to assume that I know all the reasons behind a mother choosing a c-section. Choice is a beautiful thing, as long as it is fully informed. Best of luck.

Hi M.,

Measures of babies and pelvises are very inaccurate, so it seems possible that you do not need a c-section. But that aside, how many weeks are you? If you are less than 37 weeks, you're signs could indicate preterm labor. Drink 2 large classes of water and sit down and call the nurse please. Good luck, M.!

Man, I don't think I read in your post where you asked people if they thought you should have a c section.... Geesh.

I always say that its better to just call to make yourself feel better. It sounds like the normal getting ready for baby feelings to me but you never know...
