Pediatrician in Denton Area Open to Alternative/Delayed Vaccine Schedule

I use Dr. Thomas Newell. He's not a pediatrician, though. But he has 20 year's experience and I've been so happy with him. He's open to no vaccines, but we're doing selected vaccines. I use Dr. Jeremy Baker as well and LOVE him!!!! He also returns calls promptly and is quick and easy to get in to see. His number is ###-###-####. Most doctors are open to meeting with you for questions and stuff before you decide to go with them. Good luck!

Dr Carrie Jones and Dr Amy Adams are fabulous. ###-###-#### They listen to the parents and are incredible with the kids, I am sure they would listen to you and work with you.

I was in the same position, so I know what you are going through. I started out going to Cook's Children in Southlake (when I lived in Flower Mound) to Dr. Knapp. Since we've moved to Corinth, we've moved more locally to Dr. Diane Van Maele at Cook's Children (1160 N Bonnie Brae) ###-###-####. Although no pediatrician is thrilled when you want to stagger shots, both of these doctors have been supportive of my decision and honor the decisions we are executing for our son. You just have to sign some forms. Remember to be strong in your conviction, and don't let anyone make you feel like you are doing something wrong. Another vote for Thomas Newell! We left our pediatrician after four years after a bad experience with her. (When you leave a doctor's office in tears because of the way they make you feel, you know it's time for a change.) I asked my midwife for a referral and she highly recommended Dr. Newell. We have been with him for over four yeas, and even my husband switched over to him as his family practitioner. My kids have been on a regular vaccination schedule, but I know Dr. Newell is open-minded and not an alarmist like our previous pediatrician. Anyhow, in our experience, he is the most easygoing medical professional I have ever met, the waiting times to see him are very short, and he treats you as if you are his only patient for the day meaning you don't feel rushed at all and get his undivided attention. He is just a super sweet man and very knowledgeable and competent at the same time. We love Dominique, his office assistant, as well.

I totally agree with you. I took my son to Dr. Glenna Harris at Pecan Pediatrics in Denton and although she agreed to see my son even after I refused the vaccines everytime I went in there they (the nurses) asked me "do you know your son is not current on his shots?" at 1st I would try and explain my opinion and everytime they would argue with me so from then on I just started saying "we don't do shots" and that was that! Also to the mom that stated it was against the law... NOT TRUE!!! My sister is an attorney and my Uncle is a Doctor and they both confirmed that you will not be breaking any law by standing by your choice.. You may have some difficulty enrolling in a public school but definitely won't be breaking any laws!

The pediatrician we use is in Grapevine. A little far for you... but FWIW... dr. scott, grapevine pediatrics. The pertussis outbreak is not because of unvaccinated children (I have three myself), the cases my doctor saw were all previously vaccinated children. One of my children had a reaction and there is a family history... I figure the rest of the "herd" can get stuck and we'll be just fine. :o) Good luck. It's not easy to walk the less traveled path.

I completely agree with Stacy. Carrie Jones is my pediatricain. I delayed my daughters vaccinations and she was completely okay with it.

You are not alone and you are making a wise choice especially with a boy.

Dr. Torrie at Cooks on Teasley is wonderful. I have not immunized my son and will not until the blood/brain barrier is developed around 4 and half years old and she is 100% supportive. :) He is 2 and half and has never been sick.

Hi K.. My hubby and I are getting ready to have our first baby at Inanna Birth Center in Denton, and the midwife there recommended Thomas D. Newell, DrNP, FNP-BC at Family Care Center in Denton. He is a pediatrician who deals with alternative healthcare and is open to an alternative vaccination schedule, which is why we were referred to him. Hope that helps!

First of all, you are definitely not alone in this decision!! I too have not had my sons vaccines yet, and he is 2. He will start in the fall! Although, we have since had to change dr.s due to insurance (and actually we have still yet to find a good one) I loved Dr. Amy Adams, and she never gave me any problems with the delayed vaccines! Sometimes you might have better luck with a family D.O. I feel like for everyday issues, a family doctor is a great choice, as they know my history as well as my kids. Hang in there, you are making the right choice for your family, and you can find a doctor who will at least not say much, if not support you. ~A.~

K. way to go sticking to your ideals about your baby.
I also am spreading out my babies vaccines. Thomas Newell at the Family Care Center is your man. The receptionist/nurse is so nice. The office is very nice and clean. It's located just off University behind the Kwik Wash, on Primrose. The # is ###-###-####. He is so nice at our 4 month visit my baby was exhibting torticollis. He refered me to the chiropractor/PT and said just stop by any time to get my shots. He didn't want to interfere with what was going on with the neck issue. So, I can just stop in and not even make an app. to get the shots. He is like a sweet teddy bear. He is very attentive and explains things very well. He is not a MD but a nurse practioner, which I love. I have never had to wait although they have a really nice waiting room and they are very understanding. Incidently, I too ran into rude Dr.'s when I mentioned that I didn't want all my shots or I declined a shot when my child was sick. Mind you not so sick they NEEDED the shot immediatly because yes there are times they have to have one, but I explained I am a stay home mom,this is my JOB, I will administer oral meds and keep my baby comfortable while they get better. Some physicians just aren't opened minded.

My children see Thomas D.Newell, DrNP, FNP-BC at Family Care Center off of University and Primrose Lane in Denton. He has always given me tons of info about all the vaccines and then lets me decide if my children need them or not. He has also, given other options for treatments for my children anytime they have been sick. We love him.

I don't know any pediatricians who would agree to delayed vaccines... but i'm sure there are some "anti-establishment" docs out there. It can cause harm to your child or the general population to forego vaccination; however, I don't know about delayed vaccination. There have been several outbreaks lately of preventable diseases due to parents choosing not to vaccinate, even though it is the law to do so. However, they are improving vaccines all the time. Just this summer, the more common vaccines that all kids get were approved to be combined. This means less sticks for your child. I too was hesitant about vaccines, but after doing the real research, you see that it is way safer to get them than to not get them. I also believe parents should be free to make choices that affect only them and their families... but sometimes, not vaccinating is something that can affect other kids as well and the general population as a whole, so consider that. Good luck in getting over your fears.

Dr. Marquis Nuby on N. Elm 565-KIDS is open to alternative/delayed vaccine schedule. It is one of many difficult decisions we must make as mothers and he and staff are quite reasuring.

Do use Dr. Amy Adams on Scripture Dr. in Denton - she is not opposed to alternative immunization schedule. I have done that with my sons.

Nina Cahan is a family practioner that I FINALLY found who is open and reseptive to following your choices. She is in Coppell. Let me know if youu want her information, she is easy to find on internet though.

Dr. David Goff at Cook Children's in Denton will delay the vaccines. We just did that with our 4 year old. We only gave him half his shots at his well child visit and we go back after 6 weeks for the rest. He understands the worry. You just have to sign something saying that you're declining some of the vaccines that day and it's your responsibility to get back in to get the rest of the shots.
