I need some suggestions for my son's school friends birthday party. Since there are 21 children in his class, I need something reasonable but something the kids will love(is that possible?).
There will be boys and girls there so I need suggestions for both or a unisex party favor ideas. Thanks in advance!
Wow...really great suggestions!! Right now, I'm leaning towards the personalized cookies or gift card suggestions (either Movie or McDonalds). I like the idea of not giving stuff that will just get thrown away or left in the car on the way home from the party.
I'll let you know! Keep the suggestions coming!
********I ended up getting a foam craft from Michaels. They were really cool (solar system, log cabin, skatepark, castle, treasure chest)foam making kits. They were about %8 on sale for $5. The kids loved them!*******************************

I live in a small town, so I don't know if this idea will work for you. We have a wonderful movie theatre here that costs only $3 for kids. This year for my sons birthday party favors, I went and bought gift cards from the movie theatre. I then just went and bought candy that you can get at the movies and wrapped it with ribbon around the gift card. The kids loved it as well as the parents! It wasn't just junk that you waste your money on and the parent or child ends up throwing away. Just a thought!

Funny you ask this today. Yesterday at a birthday party, a bunch of moms were discussing how party favors have just gotten to be such a pain. No mom wants to receive the usual bag of crappy plastic toys and candy. Not to mention the time and expense that the party giver has given to this favor. We had a great idea - How about a $2 or $3 McDonald's Gift card. Something the kids the can use and the parents might appreciate. Better yet, stick on a note saying Thanks and you are done with Party Favors and Thank You Notes in one step.

I have taught early childhood (from 2rs through Kindergarten) for eight years now and here are a few of the things I have seen in my class:
1. Personalized cookies (sugar cookies in whatever shape, with their name written on them in icing - also great for cupcakes)
2. Books (the 95-cent variety from the Scholastic book clubs flier your child probably brings home) and puzzles (the $1 variety from the dollar store)
3. making a craft instead of giving a toy (like making crowns, or "magic wands" using cardstock and glitter, popsicle sticks and ribbon)
4. kites for a springtime party (you can get them in springtime for $1 at Walmart)
5. For a spring birthday, one parent had her husband dress up in an Easter bunny suit, and took pictures of all the kids with him. (Had to check with the school before this, of course.)
Of course, lots of parents do the party favor bags too, but those are a few of the ones I have especially liked.

Paper airplanes! T arget has pads of patterned and colored pAPer airplane paper with directions and stickers in the partyware isle. (Girls like these too)
Also Oriental Trader has favor items in various themes in bulk at bulk prices. They ship to your door too.
Also a pack of crayons and a few coloring pages that you can print off the internet yourself.
We went to a party where each child was given a different book. I love this idea! Try Half Price books for good prices!

I've bought at Michaels the themed capsules for $1 that you put in warm water and they turn into different shapes dinosaurs, cars, insects). Those are neat if you can find one that goes with what they are studying at school. I put a cute little tag with it.
I've also done the treat bags of mixed gourmet popcorn. Kids always love this and my popcorn place sells them for .50 already bagged and ready for a bag topper/tag.

For my daughter's 6th birthday party, I bought 20 hoola hoops. These are .89 cents at Walmart. We had a hoola hoop contest, which consisted of who can hoola the longest, who could hoola with their arms, then their leg and then their neck. Each winner got a special prize. The kids also got to keep the hoola hoops as a party favor.
We also let the adults give it a try, and of course, the kids just laughed and laughed.
Good luck!

A nice favor would be a coloring book and some colors. You can pick them up at the dollar store and spend $1.50 for each child. Or you and your son could bake cookies and put them in a fun bag for a parting gift. Happy celebrating!

When I did favors for my kids parties at that age, I bought some of these items at Wal-Mart, a party store and a $1.00 store. I put them in party favor bags and the kids loved them:
silly straws
erasers
bouncy balls
pencils
age appropriate activity books (usually 10 for $1)
buy a big pkg. of crayons and give 3 ea.
a sucker
stickers
small thing of bubbles (you can buy these at the dollar store or they come in a 10 pk. for a couple of dollars at Wal-Mart - craft section - parties/weddings)

I am a former teacher, so I tend to appreciate educational items. For my kids birthdays I usually give a book as the favor. I personally would rather have one nice item than a bag of junk that ends up all over the house and I end up throwing it away in a couple of days. When my son had a reptile themed birthday, I got a book that was about reptiles. My other son had a jungle themed party last year so I got a book about jungle animals. A few of our guests were siblings and I didn't think the family needed more than one copy of the same book so I just picked another book with the same theme. Then I printed stickers to place inside the front cover that said "Thank you for helping me celebrate my birthday! Your friend, _________ ." I also put the date. I know a book may sound pricey, but if you think about it, you can get a book for $3-4 dollars or a bag of junk for about the same price. Also, if you want to get several of the same title, you might be able to get it on Amazon.com and get their Free Super Saver Shipping. I have also gotten books at the Scholastic Warehouse when they have a sale. Hope this helps. The kids AND PARENTS that we have given them to seem to really like it.

I would do something simple since there are so many children in the class. I suggest $1 items like flash cards, jacks, jump ropes, etc... You can even make it a game:
Favor Pass – Wrap an assortment of small favors (one for each child). Have the kids sit in a circle and pass the favors around while music plays. Every time the music is stopped and restarted, the rotation changes from clockwise to counterclockwise, or vice versa. After a few rounds, let each child open and keep the favor he or she is holding.
Hi - I've got 6 yo, too. If you're party has a 'theme', I try to get ideas from that, but, truthfully, they probably don't connect the two. Small or inflatable small ball, old- fashioned games like jacks, jump rope, play dough, little painting sets, a small inexpensive book. The trend seems to be one 'nice' gift and a piece of candy . I try not to spend more than a couple of dollars, after all, they get to come to a nice party ! I'm also aware of small siblings, so jacks wouldn't work.

What is the theme of the party?
Dollar Tree haslots of party favor choices. Get one thing rather than several small things that will get thrown away.
such as...if the theme is bugs or animals, get a box of gummi worms, bears, etc. wrap a bow around it with maybe a pencil, figure, etc. tied in with the bow.

We bought glow in the dark necklaces, Funny teeth (the boys and girls loved them) and a bunch of water tatoos. They have these little packs of play-dough, and some kind of candy/treat item. If you know the names of the children, you can do gummy letters in their name, or just give each child a handful in a little bag with a challenge to see if they can make up words.

Go to the dollar store and get some balls (think I just saw some little kick balls on sale at Target). Take a black sharpie marker and write the kids names on each ball. I have stenciled characters onto balls as well when I have had a theme. Put the balls in a large trash bag. When it comes time for the kids to get their party favors, dump them all on the floor and have them find their name. If finding their name is too easy at this age, put them in partners and have them find their partners name. I have been doing this for each of my son's birthdays (he is three). The kids love it and so do the parents. When I go over to my friends homes, I always see the balls. It is a toy they actually play with for months and even years down the line. Have fun!

I've never done this, but when I posted the same request, someone said to go to the dollar store and purchase several party favors (toys, accessories, etc.) and let the children choose one prize. My son (he's 4) got a sword that makes sounds from a party he just attended. There were older boys there who liked it too. I know it was from the dollar store. Good luck!

Kids love a pirate theme and you can get four ring-pops for a dollar at the "Dollar Tree." They also had chocolate coins which are a must for any pirate (like 16-20 for a dollar). My neighbor just got some shiny fabric and some rope and made draw-string bags to put the coins and rings in...both boys and girls were thrilled.

It kind of depends on your theme but you probably can't do wrong with fireman. Here in the Pearland area (outside Houston) our local fire department came out to the house with a truck, some kid sized fireman's clothes for the kids to try on and they provided plastic firehats and coloring books. If looking to have the party outside your home you can ask to do a tour of the station with all the same perks. My son and daughter both loved it.

A couple ideas...mine aren't in elementary school yet, but here's what I've seen done at preschool:
1) just give everyone a cupcake. do they really need a favor/toy?
2) is there a theme? For example, if it's transformers, you can get those mini transformers (seen them at Walmart), put one in a cellophane bag for each kid and toss in some bubble gum and lollipops
3) you could burn CDs of favorite kid songs, then print a personalized label for each kid.
4) mini-journals and a fun pen or pencil
5) cute, personalized sport top water bottles -- get the bottles at Walmart for about $1 each, then use a sharpie to write each kid's name on it.
